Depression Looks Different For Everyone

Depression Looks Different For Everyone

If you haven't heard the news, singer Coco Lee committed suicide due to depression. Many people might wonder why she went through depression if she had money, fame and success.

What we outside on the surface level, we never know what is happening behind close doors. In the media, it may look like she has it all but in reality she was facing so many demons that took over her life.

It doesn't help as well that our culture constantly tells us to never talk about the traumas or troubles we go through. Instead, we are told to keep it to ourselves and this is why we go through so many mental health issues. Keeping it in doesn't help us as at all and when we start seeking the help we need, it may be too late.

We will never know what Coco Lee really went through but we do know now that depression can look different for every single person. The smiles that we see on social media can be a mask of someone going through their own demons. For so long when we think of depression, we think of someone who is constantly sad and negative when it can be the total opposite as well.

I want to share something with you that I haven't really shared with anyone...

When I hit the Wall Street Journal bestseller list, to be honest, I actually ended up being depressed about it. I felt like once I hit this goal, I didn't know what to do with myself. Every time someone would ask me, what my next move was, I felt pressured to have an answer when I really didn't have an answer at all.

Have you ever felt like that in your own entrepreneurial journey? Instead of fuelling me to keep moving forward, it demotivated me to do anything. I realized I wasn't the only one who felt this way. Many entrepreneurs have felt this in their journey once they achieved a big goal.

By sharing my own struggles and depression with another entrepreneur, it made me feel like I wasn't alone and that I can move past this struggle in my life. It's important to share the struggles we go through in our journey because life is a roller coaster. We will have great days and we will have not so great days but being able to have the tools and resources to work through gives us the confidence to move forward regardless of our circumstances.

I hope reading today's article helps you work on yourself and your mental wellbeing, seek the right kind of help as early as possible, and surround yourself with people who will lift you up in times of crisis.

Also, make sure to check up on your loved ones to see if they are okay. That phone call could be the call that will save their life. RIP Coco Lee.

The depression is real, Sheena Yap Chan. Race, age, and gender can be areas to fuel a person feeling isolated and alone. Thank you for bringing to light that we need to check in on each other!
