Developing A Full Life Through Gratitude
In our continued journey towards personal and professional development, we often immerse ourselves in complex techniques and strategies. However, we sometimes overlook a very powerful tool that can bring great benefits to our lives: gratitude.
Gratitude is the act of recognizing the blessings and goodness we experience and expressing gratitude for them. It is a way of valuing what we have, instead of focusing on what we lack.
Have you ever stopped, however, to think about how this simple practice can generate a transformation in your life?
Well, let me tell you that it is possible to develop a fulfilling life through gratitude. In the following lines, I will tell you how you can also make it a reality.
First, I want to start by telling you a little about my story. In 2012, many things happened in my life. One of these things was that I lost my job unexpectedly. On February 10, I was called into a meeting with the company’s directors and informed that they were firing me. At the same time, I lost my circle of friends, and my life turned upside down.
It was truly a difficult year and right around that time, I found myself going through what we often call “the dark night of the soul” – a period of existential crisis and loss of identity.
The dark night of the soul puts before you your shadows, fears, and traumas. You are no longer the person you thought you were, and you begin to question everything. In my case, I didn’t really know who I was, and it took me months to recover.
Instead of looking to blame something or someone after losing my job, I decided to take responsibility for my actions, and I started practicing gratitude. That’s when my life took a complete turn.
Let us remember that giving thanks connects us with what really matters in life. It is a constant reminder of the blessings we have, even in the midst of troubling changes.
Now, to develop a full life through gratitude, there is an exercise that I really like; one which I have practiced since that point. It may sound cliché, but this simple habit was the spark that ignited my path to transformation and success.
Write a Gratitude Journal
Every day, write in a notebook 10 reasons why you are grateful at that moment.
Give thanks for what you already have, but also for what has happened to you and for what is to come. You’re probably wondering why you should do this. When you give thanks before things happen, your positive mindset helps bring about your wishes. I have tried it in my life, and I assure you that it works.
Be grateful every day for your health, your family, your friends, and your home. Also be thankful for everything you had in the past: such as your previous job and the money you earned in the past. Be thankful even for the people who in some way hurt you because they have helped teach you lessons about life.
This is a practice that does not require investment. If you don’t feel like doing the exercise manually, simply practice moments of silent reflection. Take a moment each day to reflect on the things you are grateful for. Visualize and feel the gratitude in your heart.
What are the reasons why I recommend the practice of Gratitude?
