Developing Risk Foresight
Project managers should always carefully examine each project for specific risks
These steps give you a great starting point for managing risk
While managing a project to implement a warehouse solution for a distributor, the roof of one of their buildings collapsed due to a severe storm. Prior to the storm, it was very difficult to obtain approval for disaster recovery-related activities as the stakeholder’s risk appetite was quite high. However, after the storm, disaster recovery issues were front of mind, and suddenly, the risk appetite was low. Adjustments were then applied to the solution to ensure appropriate measures were in place in the event of a future disaster impacting the warehouse.

Bob, long time no see. Great article, a simple yet effective process. Would you suggest that it be repeated at regular intervals or a major stage gates on a project?
Hello, Bob! Having studied your course “Fundamentals of Project Management: Risk” I’ve perceived Risk Appetite and Risk Tolerance as pretty similar concepts, however, here in the article, you quite clearly differentiate them. Do I understand right that Risk Appetite and Risk Tolerance complement each other and give additional insight to choose correct strategy? Thank you in advance!
