DEVELOPMENT MANAGER | GARDEN MUSEUM
The Garden Museum is Britain's only Museum of the art, history and design of gardens

DEVELOPMENT MANAGER | GARDEN MUSEUM

Six years after the Garden Museum re-opened following a major NLHF-funded £8.2m redevelopment, the Museum is at another exciting stage in its development, expanding beyond our walls through new capital projects, award-winning exhibitions, exciting new projects to engage with audiences of all backgrounds, and more.

In April 2023 we became an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation for the first time, and this investment has allowed us to create new programmes for local families, new festivals, and our first ever free-of-charge events series.

We have received a generous three-year grant to undertake an Endowment and Legacy Campaign, from a Foundation dedicated to change and capacity-building within charities. You would be the pivotal figure in raising funds to grow our work in learning and arts, gardens and environment.

For a small charity, the Garden Museum is exceptional in its intensity of support: during the pandemic our Emergency Appeal received over £500,000 in donations. The Museum is also exceptional in its audience growth and income from admissions and public events has increased by a factor of ten. And the number of schools and community groups has increased from one to over 200.

Finally, we are entrepreneurial: we run our cafe ourselves because we enjoy it - and do it better, winning best Museum Café in the world in 2018.

The Endowment is our next challenge. An Endowment is, famously, hard to raise funds for, so the first few months of your role will be spent researching other campaigns - looking beyond the Museum sector - and working with a team of brand consultants on the development of an identity for this new campaign.

The heart of it is explaining the impact we have a charity, and why it costs what it does. The Museum will soon be successful enough in its operations to fund its basic costs: this new fund will enable us to expand and innovate. We have a target of £3 million by 2026 and this will be the Museum Director’s number one priority.

The Museum is a place to grow, learn, and make a difference. It is a fast paced environment where you will see the impact of your hard work on a daily basis.

This role reports to the Museum Director, will be paid a salary of £40,000, can be taken on either Full Time or Part Time and there is Flexible Working on the basis of attending the London offices 3 days a week.
