Digital Marketing Tips for May 19

I promise simple, actionable digital marketing tips bi-weekly and here they are!

For Instagram, create your own page on your own website with multiple pages. On Instagram you only get one clickable link in your bio, so people create a page with links to other pages. The problem with using external providers like Milkshake or LinkTree (popular ones) is that we know in social media marketing we lose people each click we require, and with external providers we lose them on someone else's website and not their own. For an example of a page created on the website, check out mine here.

Follow the 80/20 rule of sales posts. Only 20%, or 1 in 5, social media posts should be sales post, asking for an exchange like purchase, book a meeting or subscribe to a newsletter. The other 80% should be value add, feel good.

Add alt text to your images. Accessibility is a growing need, and concern, and frankly the right thing to do. When uploading or attaching images to post, all social media platforms have an option (and sometimes prompt, like LinkedIn does) to add alt text to the image. Use this to write a brief description of what's in the image.

Tip. Write up. Before sending sales message, ask what evidence you have on that platform to suggest they'll say yes.

Remember to update your profile and header images once in a while! I usually recommend doing this twice a year to keep it fresh. Remember: all your profile pictures should be the same, but your headers different.

Repurpose your content with intentionality, tailoring to the platforms. One big problem with just putting the same content on different platforms is that it doesn't honour the fact that people are on different platforms for different reasons. For example, TikTok is extremely entertaining, while Pinterest is informative, and geared to saving ideas for later. Make sure to tweak the size and copy of the post for the new platform.

Sequence your emails for better results. Most companies send one email at a time and call it a day. Sequencing, or retargeting, means building emails based on actions people take. A common one you can program in is where you send a second email to people who opened your email but didn't click. For more information on this, see this YouTube video I created.

Comment and let me know - were these helpful?
