Motivation is what drives us to take action toward achieving our goals, but sometimes our motivation can drop, and we struggle to stay focused and inspired. External factors such as rewards or punishments can provide temporary motivation, but eventually, it fades away. Intrinsic motivation, however, comes from within and is a much more powerful and long-lasting source of motivation. At GYMHA, we believe that tapping into your inner drive is the key to improving your mood, staying motivated, and achieving your fitness goals. In this article, we will provide you with practical tips on how to tap into your intrinsic motivation and stay motivated in your fitness journey.

Recapping our June monthly internal training session!

This month's theme was "Developing Effective Communication Skills," and we had the pleasure of being led by Prof. (Dr.) RAJ Kumar Singh, HOD (Dept. of Commerce) at the School of Management Sciences in India.

Some highlights from this session include:

-Effective communication involves two-way communication with clear direction.

-A single word can greatly impact someone.

-Patience in decoding messages is crucial.

-Deciphering messages correctly is a major communication challenge.

-Listening is a vital part of communication, so speak less and listen more.

-Approach communication with a friendly, open-minded demeanor.

-Attention, interest, and desire are the keys to effective communication.

-Complete, correct, concise, and considerate communication is essential.

-Sharing of ideas is important.

-Understanding verbal and nonverbal cues is vital to effective communication.

-Listening provides valuable insight into a person's personality.

Many thanks to Prof. Jude Ediae.

Review of the GYMHA member's engagement survey and result

By Dr Lawrence

Here are a few suggestions I made for how GYMHA could move forward:

1. Clarify expectations: If team members on the volunteer list do not feel motivated, it is important to clarify what is expected of them in their roles. This could include outlining specific responsibilities and goals, as well as the benefits of fulfilling those responsibilities (e.g., gaining valuable experience, building a strong network, etc.).

2. Offer support: If team members are struggling with deficiencies or demotivation factors, it may be helpful to offer support and resources to help them address those areas. This could include providing training opportunities, mentorship, or counseling services.

3. Address concerns: it is important to have an open and honest conversation with them to understand their concerns and find solutions that work for everyone. This could include re-structuring roles or responsibilities, adjusting expectations, or finding ways to better align their interests with the needs of the GYMHA.

4. We could separate the volunteer team into 2

1. First team will be the most active group especially those who participated in the survey

2. Those passive members that are not willing to give more.

Ultimately, the key to addressing these challenges will be to foster open communication, build trust and collaboration, and create a supportive and positive environment where everyone feels valued.

Rebranding of GYMHA Facebook live shows

No alt text provided for this image

 Dear all,

We have some exciting news to share regarding the rebranding of our GYMHA Facebook live shows.

We are thrilled to announce that the GYMHA Facebook live shows will be rebranded as GYMHA Mind Matters Talk show. This decision was made unanimously by the board after considering all the valuable suggestions we received from the GYMHA family and Associates.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their ideas and showed patience during this process. We appreciate your input and are excited to begin testing the new name starting later this week.

We can't wait to see what the future holds for GYMHA Mind Matters Talk Show.

VOLUNTEERS OPPORTUNITY

No alt text provided for this image

Volunteers make GYMHA a real community and a thriving hub for connections and services. GYMHA is always in need of people who are willing to help and share their time, talents, and skills. We have different programmes and activities where you can choose to help. If you don’t have the time to do volunteer work but you are willing to help, we will be happy to accept any treasure you can share with GYMHA. If you have any ideas or projects in mind that you think will be very helpful to the community, you can also share them with us.

Engaging Questions:

How have you seen the awareness of mental health improvements in your job or community over the last few years?

What do you think is the most important action we can take to make sure our communities are mindful of mental health issues?

What advice would you give to someone who feels overwhelmed with thoughts or feelings related to mental health but doesn't know where to turn for support?

Do you think it's important for people to look within themselves and acknowledge their own mental health needs before trying to help others?

In what ways have you personally taken steps to prioritize your own mental health and help others do the same?

Jude thank you for including me in this. WOW you have taken this important topic much further than I have. Interesting that we have both brought up the same topic at almost the same time. My Posts are only small compared to this but we do both manage to hit on some of the ideas. I will go through this more thoroughly. Please let me know if I can help in any way. Margaret
