Do Female Judges Get Harassed, Too?

"I had dinner the other night with a classmate from law school who has spent the last 20 years as a New York jurist. ... [S]he told me that she could not believe how rude and abusive some male lawyers were to her. Like talking over her, interrupting her, and trying in many respects to run the courtroom and take it away from her.

... [W]hen I suggested (and here I give a big shout out to my partner Amy Epstein Gluck, the 'Notorious AEG') that this was sexist behavior on the part of the lawyers - that they would likely not do that to male judges, her response can be reduced to one word:

'Duh.'"

This is an excerpt from my Above The Law post.  You can read the entire post here.

Dear Richard, some time ago a colleague [Labor Arbitrator] mentioned that she was subjected to the same or similar contemptuous behaviour during proceedings. The issue to be determined was an allegation of sexual assault by an 'educator'/teacher against a minor. Lawyers should keep in mind that unacceptable conduct during a trial may lead to an order as to costs de bonis propriis; as well as a referral by the presiding officer to the bar with a recommendation to investigate the unprofessional conduct.  Regards, Johann.
