Do it for the Grams!

Do it for the Grams!

The late Mack Machowitz wrote "mission dictates the target, target dictates the weapon, weapon dictates the movement"

What he means by this is pretty straight forward. What is the mission/ job?

That in turn identifies targets that need to be hit to complete the job. It can be fitness, winning a fight, treating a wound, or being a good witness. That in turn determines what "weapon" should be used. Not only do you need a quality tool designed for the job but you want to use the most effective weapon that requires the least amount of energy expended.

Now, the purpose of this post is to get people thinking. Seven years ago, my shooting was focused on combat operations. Someone was deploying with the knowledge we provided. Possibly even us. Competition was not part of the mission. Today, I have zero chance of deploying again. Very few people I work with have a chance at deploying either. My mission is not combat operations anymore.

Odds are also pretty low of being in a gun fight. Odds of being in a rifle gun fight are even less than that. The only mission that has targets that need to be hit with a rifle is in fact, competitive events. Thus, my rifle shooting is all competitive in nature.

To finish out Mack's quote, weapon dictates movement. So, my mission is to win rifle competitions, targets are 100-1000, rifle is selected (Authors Note- I am failing that mission terribly). The movements are not based on combat, since I am not doing combat, I am doing competition.

You know the difference between Comic Book Cosplay and Tactical Cosplay?

The comic book cosplay crew knows they are never going to be a superhero. They just have fun being one for a day or two. Unless you are on the path, you have the same chance of being Captain Operator and Captain America.

Expending effort and treasure on something that has slightly more than zero percent chance of happening is, we shall say Interesting but that's not the right word. Yes, many of my friends and my industry directly benefit from the Tactical cosplay scene. They might be mad at me for this post. I am ok with that. Take those skills you learned at Tactical Timmy camp and shoot two gun, run and guns, USPSA, IDPA, or some match that fits in your wheelhouse. You might have fun. Hell, you might win something. Odds of being a great competitor and meeting great people are significantly higher than you operating operationally with other operators.

Some of you are active LEO and Mil. Your mission is different. You are doing the thing so your mission is real and vital.

For those who aren't on the job and "flex on the poors" with your lasers, NODs and "dooty grade tier 1%" blasters, maybe I'll see you at a comicon.

May the force be with you,

Live long and prosper,

Muggles Assemble!

Great article!…and the quote fits perfectly well with pretty much ALL areas of life or business…”Know one thing, know TEN THOUSAND things!” Said Miyamoto Musashi in The Book of 5 Rings!…Greatest samurai that EVER LIVED!…it’s all about how you can find a way to implement learning, process, systems, and execution time and time again with many things you see a pattern develop…one that shows that all things are connected and the process of these things is pretty cut & dried across the board really…
