Do You Look On The Bright Side?

Do You Look On The Bright Side?

Do you look on the bright side?

It's quite simple really.

You see there will always be days where you are less than perfect and find yourself feeling like a failure.

There's also going to be days when you feel on top of the world and everything seems like it's working in your favour.

Staying positive can be an elusive task, but the benefits are innumerable.

It's been said that "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" and it couldn't be more true, especially when pulled from a scientific perspective.

Believe it or not the human brain is wired to experience pain.

So we're naturally trained to try and avoid anything painful or uncomfortable, especially if there isn't an obvious solution in sight.

However, sometimes only envisaging what could go right will help you get over your slump by showing yourself how things might turn around with time.

Our tendencies to focus on the negative can be traced back generations, and it's thought it may have helped our ancestors survive.

Our inclination not to see the bright side of life could very well be an evolutionary trait passed down from those who are more attuned with danger in an environment.

It is well-known that negative thinking can be detrimental to our mental and physical health.

Why do we think that is?

Well, studies show it could have something to do with how they make us feel about ourselves or even situations in which people tend to find themselves in when their minds turn dark.

The problem seems so widespread now due to the culture where individuals are more likely at higher risk for social isolation than ever before, even with the internet.

Meaning this affects everything from one's self-esteem and feeling of accomplishment all the way down to biological factors like immune system responses rates.

Negative thoughts generally lead those experiences, with them leading straight towards poor emotional states, such as anger, guilt, or shame, depending on the circumstances and sadness, leading many experts to believe these emotions may also impact on the physical health too.

A positive mindset doesn't just make you happier, it might actively be helping you to keep healthy.

In a society where negativity is everywhere it can be hard to stay positive, but staying optimistic has more benefits than just making you feel better.

Here are 7 ways to fight back against negative thoughts and habits.

1. Rid yourself of negative thinkers - If you surround yourself with positive people, you will feel more positive. We are all imperfect, but perfection is not the goal of positivity.

2. Share positivity with others - The more you are positive with others, the more positive you will feel. Just try smiling at someone and see if they smile back.

3. Search for that silver lining - Look for the positive in every negative and reframe the negative as a positive that is helpful.

4. Practice gratitude - Being thankful every day highlights what you have to be grateful for and offers a great positivity boost.

5. Separate fact from fiction - When thinking about the negative aspect, make sure you separate the reality from the perspective.

6. Pick a positive thought - When negative thoughts of getting you down, concentrate on a positive thought that makes you smile to fight away the gloom.

7. Move more - Think about how good you feel when you have a little dance, research also shows that daily exercise can improve your mood.

Looking on the bright side is hard in the moment, but there are many different ways to look at the bright side of things and it can be quite challenging when you find yourself in a tough spot.

But there's no need for despair because staying positive is not only possible, but also will lead to improved mood overall so long as you use some tried and true strategies that work.

The good news though, is that with just one small change, these feelings can get easier and better over time, so that every time something negative happens, which might affect how happy or sad you feel overall, there are ways for you to overcome them, allowing you to live a life that you desire and deserve.

I hope you found this informative and useful.
