At the Dockyard's Threshold
Wärtsilä. Company visit at the Delivery Center Trieste, specialized in marine engines solutions and propulsion & thrust systems i.a, products which compete at a worldwide level. We had the pleasure of discovering the companies profile, corporate but DCT aswell, which historically was born as Grandi Motori Trieste, and later integrated in the Finnish corporation ecosystem, and the production & assembly lines, which were unveiled through a dedicated Factory visit, thanks to passionate professionals who accompanied us through. It was highly interesting to discover the efforts made by the company to achieve Operational Excellence milestones and integrate the Industry 4.0, Smart Factory concepts, technologies and approaches in a solid framework of performance objectives. This visit was conducted in the context of the Quality management course held by Prof. M.Sartor at the University of Udine, enabling the students to have a taste of Wärtsilä's TS plant industrial activity and gather important insights regarding relevant technological aswell as management aspects, thanks to a direct interaction with managers of different functions, such as supply chain, Ops. & production and purchasing i.a. As young engineers, it is surely illuminating the opportunity of getting in touch in first person perspective with the industrial establishment, in order to have a glimpse of the hands-on activity and daily operational agenda of the companies, receiving a major resolution picture of the industrial & business reality, in which we are called to operate in order to build a more optimised, respectful of the environment, of the people, and hungry for sustainable progress world. Ready to receive successfully the stimuli of innovation, continuous improvement and excellence, which is the star at which we stare with determination, commitment and responsibility, to build today, our common tomorrow, in the light of cooperation.
Thank you Uniud & Wärtsilä for the beautiful opportunity of getting on the field, discovering interesting new industrial insights!
