Doctor's Day Memo 2024

Dear physicians, 

As we near Doctors’ Day, I would like to express my deep gratitude for the extraordinary work you do year-round and for the care you provide for our patients, our caregivers and each other.  

Each of us has a personal story of why we chose to become a doctor and becoming a doctor. This process is one that spans years -- from the years of preparing to enter medical school, to training, and then to practice. These years of professional training and practice run in parallel to key moments and milestones in our lives. 

Most of us took the Hippocratic Oath upon graduating from medical school. This oath is a timeless reminder of the sacred commitment we have made to serve and protect the well-being of those entrusted to our care. Our commitment to our patients, communities, and the healing profession remains unwavering, as we honor rich traditions while embracing the future of healthcare. 

Over the last couple of weeks, I have had the privilege of connecting with several of you in the regions and was inspired by your commitment to our patients, communities, and colleagues. Just as the Sisters of Providence and St. Joseph devoted their lives to serving the vulnerable and needy, your work exemplifies the spirit of compassion, and unwavering dedication to the healing profession. Your commitment to the Mission is a testament to the profound impact our collective efforts can make in the lives of individuals, families, and communities. 

As a physician, it can be easy to think of others first. This week, I encourage you to give yourself a moment to reflect on the importance of the work you do and your journey to becoming a physician. Our vision of Health for a Better World depends on your passion, knowledge, expertise, and contributions.
