The future is where grids meet markets

E-World, energy, and evolution in software engineering

So much is on the move in the energy sector:

  • Europe is equipped with smart meters, even Germany is now striving to achieve this: we are using high security warehouses and SiMon (secure installer) to bring the precious commodity "Smart Meter" to the customer - a new field of activity for cash transporters and bodyguards! 😊
  • #Flexibility is being rolled out: electric cars, heat pumps, PV systems with batteries.
  • #Hydrogen is becoming a tradable commodity and with a little further innovation, long-term storage. Pioneers like #HPS (Home Power Solutions) could support individual self-sufficiency - hopefully prices will come down to 50-60 KEUR in a few years!
  • Grid operators are preparing to use flexibility intelligently from the generation and load side: REDISPATCH 2.0 and REDISPATCH 3.0.

But where many things are on the move, new requirements arise, for example to coordinate it all:

  • Networks and markets must finally grow together: on the one side, the market must price in the physics of congestion and network operators must respect the role of the Flexibility Service Provider as a market participant on the other.
  • Interoperability is essential: If there is sand in the gears of standardization, the negative leverage is enormous: connectivity and operating costs multiply if the system lacks interoperability.
  • New platforms and infrastructures are required to integrate participants more efficiently.

PONTON is right in the middle of this development:

- Our product PONTON X/P supports market communication based on #AS4.

- We have developed a redispatch platform for a German TSO

- We are part of the #EDDIE project, which is about interoperability in Consent Management and the international processing of metering point data.

- Standardisation is our second name in the world of Equias post-deal settlement

- Our task in #EDA, the Energy Data Exchange in Austria, is to provide interoperability in old and new processes of market communication.
