Easy Changes to Transform Your Life in 2024 & Beyond 👍

Embarking on a new year, resolutions often feel like daunting commitments. However, what if we shift our perspective and break down these aspirations into manageable quarterly goals? This anti-New Year's resolution advice advocates for quarterly or monthly goals rather than overwhelming year-long objectives.

Take the journey towards healthier eating. Rather than diving headfirst into a complete diet overhaul, start by eliminating holiday sugar treats this week. Gradually introduce more changes, such as switching one main meal to meatless each week. Soon, these incremental adjustments transform your eating habits without overwhelming effort.

To prevent overeating, visualize your stomach on a one-to-ten scale, one being starving and ten being uncomfortably full. Aim to maintain a balance between a four and a seven. Incorporating this simple technique can lead to mindful and healthier eating.

Reading for 30 minutes a day is a fantastic goal for personal growth. If that seems too much, try audiobooks or podcasts. I engage in all three mediums, finding them excellent companions for various activities. Start with what suits you best and relish the intellectual and entertainment benefits.

Maintain a daily journal, dedicating a few minutes to jot down a positive event, something you're grateful for, and a reason to be proud. This brief activity enhances positive thinking, contributing to a healthier mindset.

Experimenting with new recipes brings numerous benefits, from cognitive stimulation to diverse culinary experiences. Challenge yourself to try one new recipe a week or month, depending on your cooking routine.

Challenge assumptions by asking more questions and making fewer assumptions.

Deep clean neglected items monthly, fostering a cleaner and more organized living space. (I’m coming for you garage fridge!)

Practicing the "One-minute Rule" also proves effective in maintaining an organized living space. If a task can be done in one minute, do it! More tasks will get done by adopting this mindset.

Implement a ten-minute tidy, involving your loved ones, to create a stress-free environment.

Invest in waterproof sneakers to eliminate weather-related excuses for avoiding outdoor walks. You might even discover the joy of strolls in the rain.

Kickstart your day with a smile. This simple act tricks the brain into a positive mindset before facing the day's challenges.

Incorporate yoga or stretches into your daily routine, preferably in pajamas to enhance relaxation before bedtime.

Adopt the belief that everyone is interesting and attractive, fostering a mindset of open-mindedness and curiosity.

Embrace uncertainty, understanding that when nothing is certain, everything is possible.

Practice honesty in all aspects of life, refusing to mask feelings with a simple "I'm fine" when you're not. This shift can lead to newfound freedoms and deeper connections.

Indulge in "mobility snacks" daily, incorporating simple movements into your routine for improved mobility. Do them while the coffee brews, the toaster toasts, etc.

Bask in direct sunlight every morning to enhance mood and align your circadian rhythm.

This list may seem extensive, but the key is to choose one or two tips to incorporate over the next few weeks. Progress, not perfection, is the goal. Embrace each stumble as an opportunity to learn and grow, and remember that change happens one step at a time. Here's to a year of continuous improvement and self-care.

Is it possible to use technology for better caregiving?  Most of our loved ones make it very well known that they want to continue to live in their home until the end. That’s easier said than done, especially if you’re one of the millions of sandwich-generation caregivers with a full-time job and a family. How do you juggle everything and keep everyone happy?

One way many caregivers, especially those of us, who care for a parent is by utilizing technology, especially cameras, in the home. Joining me today is Neena of the famed Instagram account Rants & Big Pants. She cared for her Dad as a full-time working parent of two teens and an only child. She utilized cameras in his home, adding more as his independence slipped. Neena managed to keep her Dad in his home, happy & healthy until the final year of his life. After he moved into a care home in January 2020, she became an activity volunteer to continue spending time with him.

Neena was one of my first guests from the UK. This is a warm & friendly conversation between two daughters doing their best to care for their parents.
