Edgar Barber daily reflections - 11/28/2017

Humility comes when we begin to be honest with ourselves.

Humility is a puzzling perception. We know a lot about humiliation, but humility is a new idea. At first it seemed suspicious to us. It's like groveling, pleading, asking favors. But this is not humility at all. Real humility is simply to accept who we are.

A moral and fearless self-examination of ourselves gives us an opportunity to examine who we really are, and reading this soul-searching, written moral inventory to another person, helps us to accept it. The application of humility involves accepting our true nature, by being ourselves sincerely.

We don't have to grovel and humiliate ourselves, we should not pretend to be smarter, richer, or happier than we really are. Humility means that we give up all pretense and live as honestly as possible.

Tell yourself today: "I will allow an understanding of my real nature guide my actions. Today, I will face the world as what I really am".
