Employee Spotlight - Roxanne Newman

Roxanne Newman is the Senior Manager of Webinars and Online Events at Technology Networks. As you will read below, Roxanne has flourished during her time with us and today will be updating us on what she's been up to since her spotlight in February.

Are there any recent life updates you'd like to share?

After relocating to North Norfolk and living with my parents temporarily, I’m so happy to have finally settled into our new home in August! It’s been a long journey, especially with my partner living apart from us for a year while we wrapped up things in Essex before the move. But we’re here now, and everything is falling into place! My partner is now retired and enjoying the freedom, and we’re excited to be hosting Christmas this year. Our house will be full with both my side and my partner’s side of the family, so it’s going to be a very special (and noisy!) time.

What have you been most proud of in your role this year?

This year, I’m especially proud of the work we did to implement new project management processes. By introducing new standard operating procedures, best practices, and updated tools, we were able to significantly increase team efficiency. What made it even more rewarding was seeing how these changes helped individual team members grow in their roles through promotions and take on more responsibility. It’s been incredibly fulfilling to watch the team evolve and perform at a higher level.

How do you feel your professional experiences have shaped you as a person?

My career has definitely taught me a lot over the years. It’s made me value adaptability, patience, and always being open to learning new things. I’ve learned how to lead teams, think creatively when solving problems, and manage projects while keeping everything on track. The fast-paced nature of my role has helped me develop resilience and the ability to stay calm when challenges arise. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is not to take things too personally. Sometimes things don’t go as planned, and learning to roll with it has been key. Overall, I think my experiences have shaped me into a more understanding leader and strategic thinker, always looking for ways to improve things and get even better results.

What has been a standout moment from your career so far?

Starting at Technology Networks in 2019 as a conference producer, and now, after three promotions, becoming a Senior Manager is still the highlight of my career. I absolutely love my role and the company I work for. Every day brings new challenges, and I get fulfilment from constantly looking for ways to improve operations. It’s so satisfying to scratch that "OCD" itch – optimising processes, helping teams work more efficiently, and creating smoother workflows. I also enjoy the innovation side of my role, always seeking new formats and ideas to stay ahead in a competitive and ever-evolving industry. I’m completely addicted to it!

What hobbies do you have?

I love a good family walk, complete with a packed picnic and a flask of hot tea (or a toddy, depending on the weather!). But when I’m not outdoors, I’m all about gaming – I’ve been hooked on The Sims since the OG Maxis days and have every version and expansion pack that’s ever been released. I also enjoy playing Minecraft, PalWorld, Fortnite, COD, and many more. The best part now is that my daughter is old enough to be my gaming buddy, and she's starting to beat me at some of our favourite games! I’m a traditional PC gamer at heart, but I also have consoles and an Oculus. So, when I’m not out for a walk, you’ll usually find me and my daughter in our games room, escaping into virtual worlds!
