At the European Parliament's Office in Greece Demanding Answers

Despite nearly a decade of protest and continued communications with all the so-called concerned authorities whether in #Greece or in Europe, my dire situation outside the #UNHCR office where they have deliberately forced me into starvation since 2020, still continues to remain unresolved.

Currently, I have enormous pain in my entire body due to prolonged starvation. Having been left without any meaningful and persistent support from anywhere, the risks to my life, my safety and well-being have only grown bigger.

However, their #Nazism and baseless hostility which continues for a decade now has neither entirely broken my spirit nor has it stopped me from seeking answers to this ongoing hostage-taking and my complete #deprivation in this vile place.

As such on Thursday, March 02nd, 2023, I went to the office of the European Parliament ’s Representation in Greece in order to meet and speak either with the head of the delegation or with the head of public relations there to demand answers. I have been #undocumented since March 19th, 2018, and can neither leave the country nor the city to go to the European Parliament in #Brussels. So the only place I can physically reach is their representative office in Greece.

The #European Parliament Liaison Office in Greece, however, in response to one of my recent correspondence with them in November 2022 and my subsequent follow-up email in January 2023, while pretending to be unaware of my direct contact with the European #Parliament, suggested that I raise my issues with the European Parliament's Committee on Petitions. If they had only read my email they would have known that I already submitted to EP’s Committee on #Petitions in 2019 which is also concluded a year later in 2020, without leading to any solution to my dire situation.

In fact, not only has my situation not improved in the slightest, it has gotten much worse. Furthermore, they would have also known that the said Committee is also refusing to examine any of my other complaints or any other additional information that is brought to their attention regarding the complaint they examined between 2019 and 2020.

Hence, their unsatisfactory and irresponsible answers to my email among other things have contributed to my reasons for visiting their office in person on Thursday in order to seek them out in person and demand relevant answers to my questions and relevant solutions to my dire situation which is brought to their attention time and time again as well.

At this point, three major questions that need to be answered and everybody should ask are why they held me #Hostage in Greece and won’t let me go, what is their end game and agenda and what is the solution to this problem?

At this point, three major questions that need to be answered and everybody should ask are why they held me Hostage in Greece and won’t let me go, what is their end game and agenda and what is the solution to this problem?

Having arrived at their office, I informed the reception through the doorbell of the reasons for my presence there and also the names of the people that I wanted to speak to. They told me the head of the delegation was absent, so I asked to speak with the head of public relations instead. But in response to that, the receptionist was now repeating a question which was already answered before. Then he asked for my name which I gave to him.

European Parliament's Office in Greece
At the Door of European Parliament's Office — Thursday, March 02nd, 2023

Keeping me waiting for a while, he spoke again through the doorbell just to say “There is nobody here who can help you. They are teleworking.” and asked me to send an email again and book an appointment.

I informed the receptionist that I had an urgent matter and that he should not give me any excuses. He was now asking if I had an appointment with them. To which I replied that I did not and asked “If they want me to book an appointment, then he should inform them either to come to the door or let me in so I can reach their office and request an appointment.”

But rather than responding to what I said, the receptionist was once again vaguely repeating his previous sentence “At this moment there is nobody here who can help you.” To which I asked again, whether he understood that I have an urgent matter.

“If there is something urgent, you can go to the Police.” the receptionist replied.

“I cannot go to the Police. I have been to the Police. I am in the Police everyday. I need to speak with the European Parliament office here.” I replied back to him.

“I cannot go to the Police. I have been to the Police. I am in the Police everyday. I need to speak with the European Parliament office here.” I replied back to him.

At this point, he hung up. They did so again and again when I pressed the ring and repeated my request to speak either with the head of delegation or with the head of public relations there and ultimately threatened to call the Police. “If you keep persisting, we will call the Police.” the receptionist said.

Up to that point I did not have my banner opened in front of the door, because I thought I would be able to get in as I had at the time of lockdowns in 2020, and then if it was necessary to open it I would do so inside. At that time all their offices were empty and except for the receptionist I was unable to speak with anyone else.

So as it seemed I would not be able to go in this time, I went to open my banner right there at the door and while busy doing so, the receptionist in security clothing came to the door only to repeat what he already told me through the speaker. “They are not here. Do you understand that?”

“Who is here?” I asked.

“Nobody who can help you.” he said.

At EP Greece Speaking with a Security Personnel
At the Door of European Parliament's Office Speaking with a Security Personnel — Thursday, March 02nd, 2023

“Are you saying there is absolutely nobody in the European Parliament’s office right now?” I asked.

“Exactly.” the security guy said.

Although I repeated my question to him again. But his reply was just the same as before. Playing with words “There is no one who can help you.” was his answer again.

Playing with words “There is no one who can help you.” was his answer again

It was about that time that I heard a woman speak through the doorbell. Pointing to that, I asked the security whether she was talking to us and if so what was she saying.

The security said she wasn't talking to us but rather calling someone who he said he did not know about and informing the said person about my presence in front of their office and video taping the events that were unfolding there.

“Yeah, I am recording, because Greece is trying to starve me to death. Europe has held me Hostage, and I am here seeking answers and a solution to my dire situation and you are here, calling yourself security and won’t let me speak with them.” I told him in response.

“If there is something urgent, you can go to the Police.” the security said again.

“I told you. Now the police would be here and what they would do. They keep me in detention. They would take me to the Court and put me in prison. That’s all they are doing. And they are not resolving my situation.” I told the security.

“If you are doing something that needs to be treated like that. Then it can be treated like that.” the security said in response.

“Like what?” I asked.

Moving his shoulders in ignorance, the security said “Like what you said.”

“What am I doing right now that you said you would be calling the Police? Why would you call the Police?” I asked him.

“Because you keep insisting…” the security replied.

“I have been held Hostage in this country. I need answers.” I interrupted and told him.

“I have been held Hostage in this country. I need answers.” I interrupted and told him.

“At this moment we cannot make… to do this.” he replied.

“I don’t want to speak with the security. I would like to speak with the officials”. I told him at this point.

“The office is closed for the…” the security said.

“It is not closed.” I responded.

“Yes it is.” the security replied.

“Give me a paper that says the office is closed, and that’s it. I will be leaving and coming back another time.” I told him.

“If it was open. I won’t have any reason to tell you that it was closed.” the security replied.

“But you are not answering my question when I asked whether there is absolutely nobody in this office.” I told him.

“There is nobody who can help you.” He repeated his vague reply once more.

“I have an urgent matter that I would like to address to the office of the European Parliament in Greece in person, and I would like to speak with somebody. I gave you two names. If they are not here, there must be someone else. Their assistants, their secretaries, anyone else.” I told him.

The woman on the doorbell who was apparently listening to our conversations all along instructed the security to get back inside the building, and he instantly did without making further arguments or comments on what I told him the last.

As he went back inside, I went back to erect my banner which was still lying on the ground and not yet up due to having been interrupted by the security. Having finished opening my banner and while still waiting at the door, the security personnel came out again a while later along with another person this time.

Before the new person who was in civilian clothing got a chance to say a word, I went ahead of him to inform him as well that I wanted to speak with the head of the delegation or with the head of public relations there and subsequently asked whether he was either of those people?

“No. I am not. Because they are not here. They are on a business trip in Brussels. They will be back next week. Maybe you can come back next week.” He said.

“May I ask for your name.” I asked.

“No. Because I don’t work exactly here.” He said.

“Are you an employee of the European Parliament in Greece?” I asked.

“Are you an employee of the European Parliament in Greece?” I asked.

“No.” he said.

“What is your position here?”. I asked.

“No. I am just here to explain to you that they will be back next week and maybe it is better for you to come back next week for them.” He replied.

“Is there anybody here from their office, secretariat, anyone else who can book an appointment for me?” I asked.

“Have you sent them an email?” he answered my question with a question of his own not related to my question.

“Long time ago. Their answer wasn't satisfactory. Therefore, I am here and want to speak with them directly to find out why they held me Hostage, why they won’t let me go and why they are trying to starve me to death. If they are not here today as you say, I would like to ask for an appointment.” I responded.

“Send them an email again and they will reply to you very soon.” He said.

“Send them an email to say what?” I asked.

“Please book me an appointment for as soon as possible.” He suggested.

“Yeah, but they won’t give me an appointment.” I told him.

“I will make sure that they will see your email, if they haven't seen it yet.” He said.

“They have. I sent my last email in November 2022, and a follow-up in January 2023. They replied in January but it was not satisfactory, so I am here asking for a response, because the only thing they told me was to submit a complaint to the European Parliamentary Committee on Petitions which I have done so in 2019, my situation as you can see over there, pointing to my banner, outside the UNHCR office under the most horrible situation, no food, no water, no sanitary services, nothing. They are trying to starve me to death. Wherever I go, they call the Police and I am in Police detention, in prison, in Court for no reason. I need answers. I have been held Hostage in this country for nearly a decade. Somebody needs to take responsibility and on top of all of that nobody provides me with legal aid and the only people I am dealing with are the Police. Somebody needs to take responsibility for this and find me a solution. This cannot go on like this. It has already been a decade, Mr.” I told him.

At EP Greece speaking with a civilian
At EP Greece speaking with a civilian - Thursday, March 02nd, 2023

“Can I ask you for two things and maybe we would be able to help you again?” he said that as if they have previously offered help in the past, which to the best of my recollection they haven't and I don’t know what he was referring to by saying "help you again."

“Can you please re-submit your questions and come back next week when the person that you are asking for would be here”. He continued.

“Which day?” I asked.

“Whatever days that suits you.” He said at first, but then he said “Maybe Thursday or Friday. Because we work as a Liaison office here. It’s like a representation. We are not the European Parliament per say. You understand this?” he asked.

“I understand. But somebody needs to understand, I cannot reach the European Parliament in Brussels. I have no documents. I cannot leave Greece.” I told him.

“I understand. Thank you. And what I can do for you is, can you please resend your email again and I will make sure that they will see your email and come back at the end of next week.” he said.

“Okay. I will do so. Can you please write down your name, so I can refer to this conversation with you in my email?” I asked.

“I am not part of the European Parliament, and I don’t want my name to get involved in this. If you send your email again, I will make sure that they will see it and I will make sure that you will find an answer to your question again next week.” He replied.

“Yeah, I want answers to my questions and also solutions to my dire situation. I informed you; I have no water, no money, no food. What is this? I am on Hunger Strike for the 4th time outside the office of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). Why?” I asked.

“What did they answer you there?” He asked.

“Nothing. They are not answering. They are only calling the Police. Why? For the 4th time, Hunger Strike. A decade. I have a life. I need to go after my life. What is this? Is this the way you treat Refugees, Human beings?” I asked.

“No. I mean. This is not my responsibility to take. I am telling you that please re-submit your email, put it in the name of one of these two people, and you will get an answer very shortly.” He said.

“Okay, I will re-submit my email again and will be coming back again here next week.” I replied.

“End of the next week. Because no one is gonna be here until then.” He emphasized.

By then, the conversation was over and they went back inside the building without giving me their names.

Before leaving and heading back to my shelter, there was something else that I forgot to ask blatantly earlier, and that was the issue of my survival until then. But they also hung up when I rang the doorbell again and asked if they could help in any way to make sure I would get sufficient assistance in terms of #food and #Donations until the next week to sustain my life.

And even though I rang a few other times afterwards, they didn't answer again. So I finally decided to leave and notify them about this as well in my email. Besides I already informed them several times during our conversation that I didn't have food, water or money to sustain my life, which they did not seem to have taken note of or to have cared about.

So that was it for my second visit to the office of the European Parliament in Greece. Although I recorded my previous visit as well, I did not publish it online. You can watch the videos of this visit here.

For the time being, I already sent them the email they were expecting from me and if my dire situation did not improve in any ways, I will also return back there by the end of next week to follow-up on this visit and subsequently find out answers to my questions and solutions to my dire situation.

It is needless to say that my survival under these circumstances continues to depend on other people’s generous donations. So please, if you can Donate to my #Fundraising campaign now at the given link below and share the campaign wherever and with whomever you can and ask them to do the same.
