I didn’t expect that… I got the diagnosis…

Before we get too historic about it, I’m fine, don’t worry…


But there was something I got diagnosed with that could have severe health impacts in the future if not treated…


A few weeks back I did a blood check to see if everything is alright…

After presenting my blood work to my fitness coach (who is also a medical doctor) he asked me if I snore…


I was surprised by that question, because he only looked at my markers…

A little bit, sometimes. My girlfriend barely notices it” I said.


So he said:” Your hematocrit is a bit elevated. That could be an indicator for snoring and sleep problems, or you are simply dehydrated


The second is out of question, because I take good care of my hydration. 

So he suggested making further checks


I was questioning that statement, as I know that a majority of men snore, and way more than I do. Everyone who has been on an overnight flight can confirm that lol.

So I reached out to “Sleep Clinic” which does sleep studies. After a quick consultation I went to do one of these sleep studies, where they attach a hundred cables to your body and make you feel like a cyborg

After that night we looked at the results and got a diagnosis…

Sleep Apnea

Just a slight one, but still there…

Mainly because my oxygen saturation wasn’t good enough. So I basically don’t have enough oxygen to recover at night…

If untreated this can lead to health outcomes such as high blood pressure, a higher chance of having a stroke, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, heart disease, depression or mood changes, and so on…


Everything I try to avoid obviously…


So the doctor told me we have a few options…

Getting a CPAP (oxygen mask for sleep), which I didn’t want…


Or getting a nose operation to reduce the size of my turbinates via operation. This could eventually be sufficient to fix the issue

So last week I got the operation done (very uncomfortable), but I recovered super fast.


Hopefully in a few days, I’ll be able to breathe normally again


According to studies 30-50% of men suffer from severe or mild sleep apnea. In most cases due to being overweight


So it’s not always a matter of genetic airway problems, but primarily lifestyle choices


Let this be a reminder to take care of your health and nutrition. You might don’t be bothered by the belly you’re carrying around. But the problems that come with it have such a high impact on your health on almost all levels…

1. Strength Training or Cardio for weight loss? 🤔



In a recent meta-analysis, they looked at what interventions were most effective in terms of fat loss. 


The winner out of 12 different studies:

Caloric restriction + high protein intake + resistance training + cardio


If you do two types of training instead of one, you burn more energy, simple as that. 


But what’s interesting is the intervention that came directly after the first one:

Caloric restriction + high protein intake + resistance training 


Not cardio! So they proved again that resistance training leads to better progress and more total fat burned


These findings are not surprising to me as this is what we do inside “THE FIT HIGH-PERFORMER” since years…


Keep in mind that in order to make the best progress, nutrition has to be optimized first, before diving into any workout program.


Imagine your body being a car. Would you first try to hit the racetrack and push the pedal to the metal? Or would you maybe first make sure you have the right fuel, so you don’t fall apart halfway through?


So once more, if your goal is to lose fat, get in shape, and build a fit, durable body; Then the first type of exercise that you need to do is some sort of resistance training. And not running around like a donkey…

2. This is the BIGGEST MISTAKE that men make when they want to get rid of their belly… ❌️


There are a lot of them, of course, but there is one that I see daily


PS: Pushups and sit-ups are NOT going to shrink the belly!

People are focusing too much on exercise:

Oh I want to lose weight, let me do more exercise, running, biking and all these sorts of things


This is not a bad thing ultimately, but it’s not going to move the needle initially!


You’ll be dependent on having a very high activity level, which is not possible year-round.


What you want to do instead is focus on nutrition, because nutrition is going to make 80 up to 90% of your results when it comes to weight loss, fat loss, and seeing your body changing in the mirror


So the simplest way to put this is:


  1. Eat in a calorie deficit, so your body starts to use body fat as fuel
  2. Resistance training 2 to 3 times a week, to maintain your muscle

and

  1. Track your progress not only on the scale, but also with pictures, clothes, and circumference, to see if what you’re doing is actually producing results
