EXECUTIVE JOB SEEKERS: ARE YOU LOWERING YOUR SIGHTS AND PREPARING TO SETTLE FOR LESS THAN YOU’RE WORTH?

EXECUTIVE JOB SEEKERS: ARE YOU LOWERING YOUR SIGHTS AND PREPARING TO SETTLE FOR LESS THAN YOU’RE WORTH?

The tough process of looking for a new job, against the backdrop of a ‘tough market’, will directly affect your morale, confidence and self-motivation.

That will be exacerbated with each week and month of delay.

The demoralising effect of extended job search times will make you question everything about yourself, the job market, and everything you’ve been doing in your search.

You will start believing you’re too old, over-qualified, too experienced, from the wrong sector and with the wrong background career history.

As your search goes on, and the gap between you and success feels greater, you will start to look for anything to give you an income.

The continuing absence of your c.£10,000+ income each month does little to help your situation either.

BUT LOWERING YOUR SIGHTS AND EXPECTATIONS PROBABLY WON’T HELP YOU TO GET A NEW JOB ANY QUICKER!

FOR A MOMENT, PICTURE YOURSELF AS THE HIRING DIRECTOR AND ASK YOURSELF THESE CRITICAL QUESTIONS:

1.      If all I knew about me was what I picked up in my first 2 – 7 second glance at my CV,

a)     Would I be interested enough to know more?

b)     Would I stand out from the other contenders?

c)     Would I be interested to meet me?

If your answer/s are no, or not sure – please recognise your CV is under-selling you and must be corrected urgently. If you don’t know how to improve your CV, you need my help urgently.

2.     If you were recruiting for a manager-level role, how much consideration would you give to applicants from a Director-level background?

a)     Would you see them as a risky hire who will jump ship for a better role?

b)     Would you see them as a personal threat to your own role/security?

c)     Would you be concerned about your internal credibility being questioned?

If your answer/s are yes, or possibly, you’ll start to recognise another important barrier.

HOPEFULLY, YOU’LL NOW ACCEPT THERE’S PROBABLY SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOUR APPROACH.

There are only so many hours in a day that you can spend job searching. Doesn’t it make sense therefore, that you must ensure you are both correctly presented and undertaking your job search correctly?

If your CV lets you down, it can be corrected if approached in the right way. You probably need to arrange a meeting with me quickly.

If your job search is ineffective, it probably won’t work at whatever level role you are looking at – and even more ineffective if you’re not job searching correctly.

If you are going to commit your precious time to job searching, doesn’t it make more sense to be focused on what you really want, than dividing your time to look for second best.

If you focus on going for send best, you completely rule yourself out of the battle for the perfect next job.

And even if you do succeed in getting ‘second best’ how long will you remain there? How much self-respect will you carry with you? How will you see the future with perhaps only £7000 per month salary instead of £10,000?

You might choose to convince yourself it was the right move. If you do, I won’t challenge it.

But please don’t delude yourself.

DON’T TAKE A RISK ON YOUR FUTURE.

If you think you’ve got everything right, think again. You probably haven’t.

Professional advice and guidance can make you stand out and set your job search campaign ahead of your major competition.

Have you ever enlisted expert help - to ensure you are better prepared, better presented and perform better than others?

If you have never taken professional advice on how to job search correctly, how can you expect to do it efficiently and effectively?

It’s your future. Does that matter to you?

If now isn’t the right time – when will be?
