Fall Back, Spring Forward: Making Time Work for You
“The two most powerful warriors are patience and time” – Leo Tolstoy
As we turn our clocks back an hour this autumn morning, I find myself reflecting on the profound symbolism of this biannual ritual. This "extra" hour we've been gifted isn't just about sleep—it's an invitation to pause and recalibrate our relationship with time itself.
The Science of Change
Neuroscience tells us that our brains are constantly engaged in a delicate dance with time. Our circadian rhythms—regulated by the suprachiasmatic nucleus in our hypothalamus—respond to environmental cues like light and darkness. When we adjust our clocks, we're not just changing numbers; we're asking our neural architecture to adapt and recalibrate.
As the psychiatrist Viktor Frankl once said, "Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom."
Seasons of Life
Just as nature moves through its cycles, our lives flow through distinct seasons. The ancient Greeks understood this with their concept of "Kairos"—the right or opportune moment. While "Chronos" measures time in sequential minutes and hours, Kairos represents those pivotal moments when opportunity meets preparation.
The 24-Hour Question
Ask yourself:
This fall season presents us with an opportunity to reassess how we're managing our most precious resource.

Making Every Hour Count
Research in behavioral psychology shows that it takes approximately 66 days to form a new habit. As we enter the final stretch of the year, we have exactly what we need to establish transformative patterns before the new year begins.
Consider this quote from Maya Angelou: "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better."
A Season for Growth
The changing of time reminds us that transformation is not just possible—it's inevitable. The question is whether we'll be intentional about it. As the leaves change and fall, they demonstrate that letting go is often the first step toward growth.
Your Next Level Awaits
As we embrace this seasonal shift, I invite you to consider: What would your next level look like? What habits, mindsets, or patterns are you ready to "fall back" from? What new horizons are you prepared to "spring forward" toward?
If you're feeling called to explore these questions deeper, send me a message and I hope to provide some insight.
