Falling in love

Story of an Indian subsidiary.

Love & affection have no space in business.

Yes, love or passion for your business is not the same as romantic love or affection. They are a lot of similarities, and strong emotional connections, they are distinct in their nature and expression.

But this journey is no different from a love story - it requires patience, commitment, and a willingness to adapt and grow.

I recently spoke to the CEO of a successful Indian subsidiary and their story sounded like a classic rom-com. He told me about the company's early days, they faced many challenges, rejections & setbacks. But instead of throwing in the towel, they persevered They focused on building meaningful relationships with customers and stakeholders, gave attention and excellent service that made them stand out in a crowded market.

Just like in a romantic relationship, trust and loyalty are key to success. Indian subsidiaries understand this and know that they need to put in the work to create long-lasting bonds. They do this by listening to feedback, addressing concerns, and consistently delivering value to their customers.

But building a successful business takes more than just heart and soul. It takes innovation, efficiency, and a laser focus on the bottom line. Here is the pattern of successful subsidiaries:

  1. Embrace innovation: Indian subsidiaries are known for their willingness to embrace innovation, whether it's through new technology or new business models. By staying ahead of the curve, they're able to provide better solutions and stay competitive in a fast-changing business environment.
  2. Focus on efficiency: Indian subsidiaries focus on efficiency and continuous improvement; by analyzing data, streamlining processes, and reducing waste, they're able to provide better service at a lower cost, which benefits both the company and the customer. Do all subsidiaries do this, not all, but progressive manufacturers definitely.
  3. Build strong relationships: Indian subsidiaries know that building strong relationships with customers and stakeholders is essential to their success. Their focus is on creating value for customers and trust with stakeholders. By listening to feedback, addressing concerns, and going above and beyond to provide value, they're able to create a loyal customer base that will stick with them through thick and thin.

And just like in a love story, there are sometimes anti-love elements, attrition, transparency & difficulty in managing head office expectations, that slide within the relationship if the leadership is not strong and vigilant. He said you have to fight - fight for what is right. The actions are simple, roll up your sleeves, call for a task team, and get things done.

Does it not sound like the climax - a friend/confidant listens in, springs up a brilliant idea and the Heros friends all join forces to win the love?

In conclusion, the journey of an Indian subsidiary is no different from a love story - it requires patience, commitment, and a deep understanding of the needs and desires of the other person.

When you fall in love, you make things happen.

Fall back in love with your business.
