February Newsletter

February Newsletter

If variety is the spice of life, then February has been pretty hot for Quite Frankly. A lot has been packed into this short month with crews working in Kenya, India and down the road in the City of London.

KENYA

Lies, Sam, Richard and Jeremy were in Nairobi and the countryside around Lake Victoria to film a breadth of partnerships between Diageo and local NGOs. Working with local teams from CARE International and SightSavers, they filmed initiatives that support farmers with disabilities and protect water security. Long shoot and travel days and they’ve returned home with huge amounts of beautiful footage. Please check our social channels in the coming weeks for whole host of different videos.

Closer to home we’ve been working on the Wren 300 project to mark 300 years since the death of visionary architect Sir Christopher Wren, best known for his work on St Paul’s Cathedral. Apart from being a wonderful heritage project for us to be involved in, it was the first time we worked with micro-drones to capture extraordinary footage. Weighing just 200 grams but shooting full 4K resolution, these beauties of engineering mean we can fly over Central London without all the onerous permits and police permissions that would normally be required. And the gods of production were shining on us that day as we had bright sunshine in otherwise drab winter week.

INDIA

Sitara was in Alwar, Rajasthan. Alwar is the first distillery in India to be Alliance for Water Stewardship certified and we were on-site to explore individual women’s stories ahead of International Women’s Day. Our films (still in post) will explore how women are taking the lead here, how the distillery is meeting its sustainability commitments and how the facility benefits the wider community.

GRADING

Mariana has now completed her training course on DaVinci resolve, the industry wide colour grading tool. Although, like After Effects and Photoshop, you could spend the rest of your life mastering this software – it will bring another layer of finish and professionalism to our films. Used to full effect on our recent Winter Olympics promo for Omega, we will be saving our clients thousands by offering this service in-house.  For those of you who might not know what grading is, have a look at these before and after stills.

QF VIEWINGS

Bobby spent Valentine’s Day living his best ex-pat life at the Great British Business Club in New York. Whilst here in London and with Happy Valley over, Grace and Sam have been obsessing about The Last of Us on Now TV. Finally, Sally is going on maternity leave this month. We look forward to some lovely news for the whole Zod family early in April.
