Palintest June Newsletter

Introducing the news from Palintest this month! Read on to find out all of the latest goings on including events, product information and lots more.

40 Years as a Halma Company

This month we have been celebrating being part of Halma Plc for 40 years. As well as the campaign we have been running relating to our history and relationship with Halma, we also celebrated on Friday 16th June with an offsite event for the whole business. This was an old school style sports day followed by street food vans, drinks and music in the sunshine. The event went down a storm and was a great opportunity to have fun and catch up with colleagues away from the desk!

As part of this event, we also debuted our 40th anniversary video to the whole business. We filmed this video earlier in the month, where we sat down with employees and our Managing Director, Mark Davison, to discuss Palintest’s heritage, relationship with Halma and plans for the future. This was released on our social channels on the same day – if you missed it you can watch the video below.

Whilst HQ celebrated our 40th anniversary as part of Halma with an offsite event, the US team also celebrated with a bowling night for the whole team! This was also a great opportunity for the team to welcome and get to know our new starters in the US – Sarah Kutnink, our new US Commercial Director, and Joe Johnston, our new US Business Development Manager.

Members of our US team, Loizos Konstantinou and Jordyn White , visited Toronto, Canada earlier this month to attend the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Annual Conference & Exposition (ACE).

The Palintest team joined our partner’s Aquatic Life on their booth to demonstrate our latest innovations including Kemio and Lumiso Expert. Kemio was the headline product, with discussions around Lead and Copper testing being held with many of the visitors to the stand.

If you missed us at ACE 2023 or would like to find out more about how Kemio can help you comply with the US EPA Lead and Copper Rule, click below to find out more and get in touch today.

International Four Day Marches Sponsorship

Our Production Manager, Carl Maddison , volunteers in the Durham Army Cadet Force in his spare time. As part of this, in July he will be participating in the International Four Day Marches in Nijmegen with over 36 other Cadets and adult volunteers from the group. This is the biggest road marching event in the world, involving Cadets and adult volunteers marching 25 miles on four consecutive days.

Photometer Best Practice

At Palintest, our commitment to our customers does not end at the point of purchase. We want to ensure that you get the most out of your water analysis solution by offering a full-service package including technical support, servicing, and the use of our data management platform Palintest Connect.

As part of this, we have recently been running a best practice campaign around our photometer instruments to ensure your results are as accurate and reliable as possible. If you have a Palintest photometer, below are some of our top tips to ensure you are getting the most out of it:

Always use genuine Palintest reagents, as reagents are formulated specifically for Palintest instruments and instrument calibrations are based on Palintest reagents.

  • Test reagents must be used within the best before date.
  • Dilution can be used to bring results that are above the range of the test back into range.
  • Always follow the test method as specified and respect the reaction time required.
  • Always ‘blank’ your instrument using a test tube of your sample water without any reagents.
  • Clean the optical area of the instrument carefully with a solvent-free anti-static foam and lint free cloth.
  • Testing equipment should be kept clean with no water marks, fingerprints, scratches, or stains. Preferably test equipment should be rinsed with distilled water after and prior to use.
  • Discard any discoloured crush rods or stained test tubes as these can be a source of cross contamination.

We have also created some handy best practice videos which are available on our YouTube channel.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

At Palintest, we strive to ensure DE&I is a main focus across the business. We have a dedicated DE&I team who run monthly sessions which include focus groups, media clubs and other activities on a different topic every month.

June Focus Group – Celebrating Pride Month

Our June DEI session was all about PRIDE! LGBTQ+ Pride is celebrated in the month of June and is both a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and its allies, and a movement for further LGBTQ+ rights.

Our session was a Q&A led by Product Manager Joshua Gledhill with a guest speaker from another Halma company. During the Q&A lots of insightful conversation occurred with some key takeaways being:

  • For those wanting to be an ally – be respectfully curious! Ask questions.
  • Remember that all people are individual, there is no right or wrong way to be an ally or LGBTQ+ at work.
  • Pride is important in the workplace as inclusive workplaces allow people to be authentic at work - sharing their whole self allows key working relationships and teams to be developed, as these are based on trust. Hiding a large part of yourself hampers trust and relationship building.
  • Conversations like these foster inclusive workplaces by normalising LGBTQ+ conversations and topics.

July Media Club – Menopause

Our July DEI activity will be a media club relating to Menopause, stayed tuned for next month’s newsletter for more updates.
