Find a new job - like a Pro!
The Great Resignation? Yes! But, how do you find the right job for you? How do you find ALL of the right jobs for you? Here are some strategies that will help you find a job, like a PRO! These simple tips include a top secret strategy that most people never know about!
Strategy 1 – Go direct!
Search directly via the company careers site. Our amazing team advertise all jobs for Verizon, Verizon Services Ireland, Verizon, Verizon Enterprise Services, Bluejeans and Incubed IT (Verizon Robotics Business Group ) on our careers site. Simply Google: Verizon Careers! (Hint; we are hiring, a LOT!).
Tips: Job adverts expire, so complement this search by connecting with our recruiters and asking what we are working on in case you are missing anything. You can also reach out and connect with hiring leaders within Verizon, simply search by title variations: Lead, Leader, Manager, Director, Architect, COO, CTO, Chief etc. Not advertising now? No problem, create a job alert, per the image! Resources: Verizon careers website, job alerts.
Strategy 2 – Go indirectly!
Use intermediary channels such as jobs boards and Linkedin jobs.
Search directly using intermediary businesses such as jobs boards, by focusing on company adverts, not agency adverts. Example: Navigate to a jobs board such as Irish Jobs – deselect agency, type limited keywords to maximise results, apply, take note of the application on your spreadsheet.
Tips: Note company, contact/details, job, date on a spreadsheet (do this for all applications), Apply via the advert. Identify names of hiring manager/reporting line. Connect with Recruiter/reporting manager/HR rep on Linkedin – connect with all and send a follow up message/introduction. Ask for an interview! Resources: Google, Irishjobs, Monster, Linkedin jobs, Xing, etc.
When you have exhausted the company adverts, continue to search by focusing on recruitment agency adverts, not company adverts (some companies use agencies exclusively, though it is rare). Repeat as a above, but now you can be more specific and more targeted. Search “Full Stack Developer and related job titles, once exhausted, expand, to keyword searches using a BOOLEAN approach: “C#” AND “.net” etc. Utilise recruitment agencies based on targeted opportunities, taking note of every application. Follow up with every application to understand what company/location/salary/range/opportunities are on offer.
Tips: Find an experienced recruiter that has a vertical focus relevant to your skillset. Great recruiters are worth their weight in gold and make agencies successful. But remember, not all agency adverts will be currently live, and recruiters will not have access to all opportunities… therefore, this remains a numbers game. Different sites host different opportunities, therefore, use a number of jobs boards.
Strategy 3 - Source opportunities using a search engine!
Use Boolean logic the way a Technical Recruitment Pro does, to search and identify opportunities on Linkedin jobs via Google. E.g. enter this search string with Boolean logic to uncover potentially hidden opportunities. Searching:
Results in:
Tips: Add OR operators to search a number of specific companies: (Verizon OR "Incubed IT" OR Bluejeans) - a little Boolean goes a long way. Identify opportunities and apply, then immediately connect with the recruiter on Linkedin. Email to let them know you applied. Follow up no more than 1 week later and ASK for an interview.

Strategy 4 - Source opportunities using a job aggregator site:
Use an aggregator site such as Indeed. Be specific initially (“community manager”), then go broad (“social media”). Tips: Search directly by identifying companies first. Apply later via agency. Connect on Linkedin directly. Follow up independently, within 1 week and ASK for an interview.
Strategy 5 - Identify opportunities based on multiple companies and your discipline.
Initiate a search for people in Ireland, on Linkedin, with “full stack engineer” AND C# mentioned. Build a list from the names of companies listed on their profiles based on those people who hold the job “full stack engineer”. Target those companies’ careers pages on Linkedin and also their own website careers pages.
A new search might look like this: “Senior full stack engineer” C# (Verizon OR Bluejeans OR "Incubed IT") – thereby increasing your view of relevant opportunities.
Strategy 6 - Tell us!
When recruiters log on to their trusty corporate Linkedin Recruiter account, they can see and/or search by those who are "Open to finding a new job". When you do this, a recruiter will see a badge against your profile that displays as "Open to work". Recruiters can, in fact, search for people who have used this spotlight.
However, in the image, you can also see the recruiter view of whether you are active on LinkedIn (likely to reply to inmails), whether you are already engaged with a brand (interested in the company), are connected to people in the company (potential references/advocates/people to ask for insights/interviews), or whether you have applied in the past (engagement/interest). Resources: You, your network, your activity!
Finally, Strategy 7 - Get creative!
Always keep your eyes open for hidden adverts, with a top tip being; check the source code! I found this beautifully sneaky hidden Vimeo advertisement on the Verizon Connect Vimeo video page. Genius!
