The First Rule of Innovation

I’ve been involved in a lot of debates around what innovation is and isn’t of late, partly sparked by a podcast we’re putting together.

Out of all the talking what is clear that the word and activity have multiple nuances across business, to such an extent that many businesses will deny they are innovative simply because they don’t recognise themselves in the explanations given. The thing is, they often are doing something innovative, they just don’t call it that.

So simply put the first rule of innovation is:

You don’t talk about innovation.

What you do talk about is changing, improving, implementing new ideas, creating dynamic products or improving existing services.

There is a danger that we lose ourselves too easily in words like innovation; we complicate things so much just the mention becomes a barrier, a challenge.

So to take the first rule to heart, what are you doing or hoping to do in your business that’s new to you?

For those of you who’ve been asking what I’m up to these days, I hope this explains a little about the world I’m in. If I you want to know more, get in touch.
