Five Things I Enjoyed in May and June

Five Things I Enjoyed in May and June

As I sit here and reflect on the past two months, here are five things I enjoyed.

Cal Newport starting a podcast - One of my favorite authors has joined the podcast ranks and it's one I listen to every week.

YouTube - Outside of LinkedIn, the platform I've found myself using the most is YouTube. Not the algorithmic "suggestions" that can lead to rabbit holes and a time sink but rather focused subscriptions that allow content curation to help me continue to develop. I've been able to watch and learn from new voices as well as the art of conversation.

Vacation - Much needed.

MCDP 7 - The Marine Corps came out with a new publication detailing their learning strategy and this has made the greatest impact of anything I've read recently. What makes this so great is that you can substitute your name for Marine and it can work as your learning strategy.

Here's the opening paragraph detailing what this publication is about:

The purpose of this publication is to describe the Marine Corps’ learning philosophy and explain why learning is critically important to the profession of arms. While many of the concepts in this publication have been passed on by Marine leaders throughout our history, this publication seeks to formalize them and provide aspirational goals. Learning is an institutional priority and a professional expectation for all Marines. This mentality is key to the Marine Corps becoming a more effective learning organization. The most important factor in this philosophy is the importance of continuous learning throughout our careers for warfighting.

Gone West "What Could Have Been" - The acoustic version is fantastic and I love the harmonies.

Have a safe and happy Fourth of July!
