Follow my newsletter experiment?
Hello my friend!
In 2022, my independent newsletter averaged around 1,000 net new subscribers per month. Last week alone, I added nearly 1,200 subscribers – pretty cool!
It's also valuable – because my newsletter is the core of my business as a creator.
And this week, I'm kicking off a month-long experiment in growing that newsletter – and I'm sharing the whole thing here (for free).
There are two themes I want to double down on this year:
And they go hand-in-hand – by running experiments, I conduct my own firsthand research. The results of that research will become actionable recommendations for your own creator business.
Last week, I asked my subscribers which platform I should focus February's experiment on. And Email beat out LinkedIn by a slim margin:
So email it is!
In The Lab, we have a dedicated Experiments space for members to all share the experiments they're running and the results they achieve. We have a simple 4-part template that I'll use during this experiment as well:
So let's get started...
🎯 Goal
The goal of this experiment is to have a record-high month of new subscribers in February. But to raise the stakes and make it even more specific, my goal is to break 20,000 subscribers by the end of February (starting point of 17,310).
🤔 Hypothesis
To triple my monthly average for net new subscribers, I'll need to be really intentional about leveraging some of the most successful list-building strategies that I've discovered over the last couple of years:
I have several ideas in mind and I intend to experiment with them each week, sharing the results here as I go.
The first update on the experiment will be shared next Sunday!

Her Secret To Selling A $10K Online Course With Ease | Mariah Coz
Are you providing a high-ticket program?
And if you are, are you charging high-ticket prices?
I've heard the term "high-ticket" before, but nobody has articulated it to me quite like Mariah Coz.
In episode 78 of this show, I interviewed Marie Poulin – the creator of Notion Mastery. Marie told me at the time that Notion Mastery earned ~$40,000 per month as an evergreen course – and part of her success was working with Mariah:
"By the end of the year, I will have surpassed half a million dollars in revenue. Just me and a part-time assistant, and one evergreen course. My mind is blown. My attitude around money has changed so much since working with Mariah. This is the least stressed out and the most fun I've ever had in my business, and I would never have believed these numbers were anywhere close to realistic." – Marie Poulin via Mariah's website
Mariah helps creators like Marie build an ecosystem of evergreen courses and group programs with year-round revenue. She calls it the High-Ticket Hybrid model.
Some of her clients charge tens of thousands of dollars for programs – and Mariah helps them sell those programs without sales calls or endless free content.
