From Corporate to Coaching: Building a Business That’s Aligned and Authentic

Making the leap from corporate life to entrepreneurship is both thrilling and challenging. For many, the structured environment of a corporate career feels safe, while the unknowns of running a business feel daunting. But for Haysing Han , leaving her role as a banking executive wasn’t just about stepping into something new—it was about finding alignment, creativity, and authenticity.

In a recent episode of The Amanda Kaufman Show, Haysing shared her journey from corporate to coaching, offering powerful insights for anyone navigating a similar transition.

The Defining Moment

Haysing’s corporate career was a picture of success. She wore the pinstripe suits, led major teams, and aimed for executive roles with a singular focus. But as organizational changes shifted her role, she realized something was missing.

“No matter how hard I tried, I felt like I didn’t fit in,” Haysing shared. “I was put into a role that didn’t align with who I was, and I just couldn’t see myself continuing down that path.”

It was a moment of reckoning. She realized she wanted more than just a title or a big team. She wanted to create something meaningful—something that allowed her to bring her whole self to her work.

Early Struggles in Entrepreneurship

The transition wasn’t easy. Haysing admitted that her first year in business was marked by challenges she hadn’t anticipated.

“One of the hardest things was staring at an empty calendar,” she said. “In corporate, my schedule was always full. But as an entrepreneur, I had to figure out how to structure my own time and create opportunities from scratch.”

She also struggled with the loneliness of running her own business. Without the support of a corporate team, she was responsible for every aspect of her business. “You’re it, from beginning to end,” she said.

Rediscovering Creativity and Purpose

Despite the struggles, Haysing found a silver lining: the chance to rediscover her creativity.

“I always thought I wasn’t a creative person,” she admitted. “But two years into my business, I realized I had so many ideas. It just took being in a different environment to bring them out.”

This newfound creativity helped her build a coaching practice that aligned with her strengths and values. She also began to see how her corporate experience could serve as a foundation for her work as a coach.

“I thought I was starting over, but I wasn’t,” she said. “I realized I could take what I was already good at and turn it into something unique for my clients.”

Building a Community and Brand

As her business grew, Haysing recognized the importance of community and brand recognition. She experimented with platforms like LinkedIn and Facebook but found it difficult to stand out in crowded spaces.

This led her to explore newer platforms like Skool, where she began building a highly engaged community. “I wanted to create a space where people could connect and align with their own unique frameworks and stories,” she explained.

Haysing also refined her niche, focusing on helping consultants and coaches create intellectual property and signature frameworks. By narrowing her focus, she was able to resonate more deeply with her ideal clients.

Key Lessons for Aspiring Coaches

When asked what helps a coach succeed, Haysing shared three key insights:

  1. Develop Your Own Perspective: Don’t just repeat what others say. Experiment, learn from mistakes, and form your own opinions. Authenticity comes from lived experience.
  2. Avoid Preaching: Coaching isn’t about superiority—it’s about using your skills to empower others. Approach your clients as equals and focus on collaboration.
  3. Stay Open and Adaptable: Your business will evolve over time. Be open to new ideas and let your journey shape your offerings.

The Importance of Commitment

For Haysing, the journey from corporate to coaching has been one of perseverance and growth. Her advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is simple but profound: stay committed.

“There were times I wanted to quit,” she admitted. “But as long as I didn’t stop, I knew I could make it happen.”

Her story is a testament to the power of resilience, self-discovery, and alignment.

Final Thoughts

Haysing Han’s journey from corporate to coaching is an inspiring reminder that success is about more than titles and accolades—it’s about finding alignment with your values and creating a business that reflects who you are.

If you’re considering a transition to entrepreneurship or looking for ways to build a more authentic and impactful business, take a page from Haysing’s book: embrace creativity, stay open to change, and trust in your ability to create something meaningful.
