From Dreams to Career Change Journey: Inspiring Stories of Women Breaking Into Tech

Today, I'm bursting with pride and excitement!

Let's set aside the day job challenges for now

because lord of mercy... I could vent on some stuff,

but I'll leave that for another day;

there's something truly remarkable happening on the horizon.

It's about the incredible women I've had the privilege of working with, the ones who dared to dream, invested in themselves, and embraced the journey of getting comfortable with the uncomfortable.

Today, I want to focus on the positives that's happened outside.

Firstly, I received a lovely message today

from someone who nearly brought me to tears in the middle of the office today,

someone who has decide to take a leap of faith and navigate her journey into tech from a non technical background bases on some clear advice I gave a threw months back.

Someone who decided to bet on herself and take action.

I couldn't tell you the amount of people who ask me for advice, and I take time out to listen and learn about them and their story.

I'll ask about:

the journey so far;

their aspirations;

who they are;

what they really want;

because I'm generally interested.

Usually I give that advice and that advice will go through one ear and out of the other, and then months later they'll get vex that their situation hasn't changed....

It's very rare that someone who asks for advice, actually takes that advice word for word and actually implements exactly what I told them, which is usually advice around the best most uncomfortable way to go about it for the best opportunities. People rarely like discomfort and being vulnerable and that is half of what holds people back from their blessings a lot of the time. The ones that do actually take the advice and implement it the results are beautiful to see. It's hard work, but it does pay off.

Well this lady did take my advice, to the letter. I didn't know her personally beforehand, but she listened intently and took on the challenge to step out of her comfort zone so she can step into her ideal lifestyle later down the line.

I'm proud of her for taking action and looking I'm forward to where this journey takes her, and also looking forward to her celebration message in the the months to come.

Secondly, the other reason why I'm feeling joy at this moment is because I've just completed the core one to one evening sessions of my coaching programme with one of my current clients, and the transformation has been amazing to see.

You see we're not over here just encouraging focus on purely technical skills like some of the masses of bootcamps and initiatives out there. Tech skills are great, but what about your head. Over here we're putting a lot of focus and hard work into the mindset and confidence side too, which for me is just as important as the tech skills.

I'm telling you this journey will crew you up and spit you out if you don't do the work on laying strong foundations. A strong mindset will set us free.

Because if it's not self doubt holding you back due to you feeling you don't have any skills to offer the tech industry because you feel you don't have any relevant experience.

Sometimes it's just you don't know where to start so you give up at the first hurdle.

Honestly, sometimes it is due to unprocessed past traumas that can make you feel unworthy, not good enough, never a success..

And a lot of the time it is down and dirty sabotage from your nearest and dearest (family, friends or frenemies you decide :-? ) when you start sharing your dreams of transitioning into tech, and because they don't really know what it is or they don't understand what's involved they come with their naysayerness (also known as tom foolery),

or sometimes they blatantly just don't want you to grow and better yourself (telling you your chest is too high - translation for the non caribbean heritage peeps means you are too full of yourself because you want more for your life), usually because of their own insecurities about their life that's going no where and they're projecting that on to you with the snide comments or second guessing/gaslighting questions to sew a seed of doubt into your mind and fear into your heart about your own abilities.

Either way whatever the reason, the lack of confidence in some of the women who I come across who are interested in switching to tech or want to progress their existing career in tech, but haven't taken any action yet is unreal. And nobody is really addressing it head on.

Anyway my client was one of those who lacked confidence in herself (for reasons personal to her) and boy oh boy the transformation after 8 weeks in the Confidence Coaching Programme has ben evident. By week 3 she was more self aware, calmer, more confident. By week 5 more focused, excited and more trusting of herself. Teamed with a clear realistic action plan for the role of her dreams which we created together (a role that she actually put the work in to get clarity on was the right role for her), she's now ready to execute that plan with a clear milestones and relevant items to focus on, and accountability from me to make sure she is on track or needs to tweak it based on new obstacles that may arise.

We at the stage of the programme now where we will check in at regular agreed intervals and make sure she is on track, with some key challenges thrown in to keep her honest and motivated and slightly out of her comfort zone.

I'm so proud of how far she has come since we started working together 8 weeks ago. I'm so looking forward to seeing her progress on the journey to achieving her dream role.

I'll be opening up my calendar for the next cohort of women to come through and work with me from next month. Honestly, I'm only making space for 3 new coaching clients who a serious people willing to invest in themselves and do the work to make a change, because it is a lot of work and I put my all into helping them to build the inner confidence they need to make a career change into tech.

If you feel you could do with some support on your journey into tech please DM me and we can have a chat and see if your a good fit to work with me and my team. You can find out more info about the confidence coaching programme via the link in the comments.

I'm buzzing at the end of stressful day time, but a contentful evening. Here's to the serious blessings that tomorrow will bring :-).
