From Industry Specialist to Recruitment Consultant - Maurits Wisbrun's Blog
We are always looking for people from any industry and level, whether experienced recruiters or not, to join our growing business. But it is a common misconception that people believe they need to have experience in recruitment to join our team. Recruitment Consultant, Maurits Wisbrun's blog will prove that you don't have to have any prior recruitment experience to have a successful career in recruitment.
A new challenge
"After 12 years working within the FMCG, telecommunications and digital industries I knew I was ready for a dynamic career change. During my time at companies such as FrieslandCampina, Unilever and T-Mobile, as well as the music streaming service, Deezer, I’d always worked in commercially driven roles (Key Account Management, Business Development, Strategic Partnership Manager and Trade Marketing). I wanted a new challenge where my industry background and passion for building strong sustainable client/customer relationships would make a positive impact."
Why recruitment?
"I’d interacted with several recruitment agencies over the years and understood how a combination of industry expertise, commercial acumen and the ability to network effectively were qualities shared by the most successful consultants. The best recruiters are always tuned-in with the latest global business trends too. And through their expertise and commitment to understanding the needs of clients and candidates, develop an instinct for sourcing the right talent for different roles, as well as for identifying what it takes to become successful within certain organisations."
Why Nigel Wright Group?
"I moved from Brazil to The Netherlands to complete a Business degree. FrieslandCampina hired me when I graduated, and my career since has been dedicated to the wider consumer industry. Nigel Wright Group is Europe’s number one consumer search firm. Consultants at the firm’s Amsterdam office had always impressed me whenever I’d engaged with them, for the reasons outlined above. And as an international business with a unique proposition, they were the obvious company for me to approach when seeking to change careers."

My first 100 days as a recruitment consultant
"It’s been a fast-paced and fun first three months at Nigel Wright. I’ve learned several new skills and completed various training programs covering areas such as interviewing skills, report writing, pitching and customer service. All consultants are encouraged to develop a market specialty, and I’m becoming the Amsterdam office’s go-to expert for the Food and Drinks sectors. The onboarding process has been fantastic – I already enjoy strong relationships with my colleagues in the Netherlands and overseas. Every day continues to bring new and exciting challenges."
Work-life balance
"I’m married to Daniela who also has her roots in Brazil. We like to regularly visit our families in São Paulo and spend time together with our young daughter, Isabel. I’m a football and golf fanatic. In my spare time I like to play a round of golf with friends and enjoy watching Ajax as well as the Dutch and Brazilian national teams. Finding a company that understands the importance of work-life balance was essential to me when changing careers. Nigel Wright has several benefits which promote healthy working practices including flexible working options, extra holidays for each year worked, and a sabbatical scheme for long service.
I’d highly recommend anyone thinking about changing jobs to consider working at Nigel Wright Group. It’s been a fantastic move for me and my family and I’m looking forward to a long and successful career in recruitment."
