From People Pleaser to LinkedIn Leader: A Mindset Shift

From People Pleaser to LinkedIn Leader: A Mindset Shift

Hey there and Happy Friday

It's me again, your no-nonsense Irish LinkedIn Mindset and Brand Strategist. Today in my 2nd newsletter I want to explore a topic that's crucial for many of us: shifting from being a people pleaser to becoming a LinkedIn leader. Let’s dive in!

Identifying People Pleasing Behaviours

People-pleasing can be a huge roadblock on your path to leadership (it's definitely held me back many times)

Do any of these behaviours resonate with you?

  • Saying Yes to Everything: You agree to every request, even when you're stretched too far already.
  • Avoiding Conflict: You steer clear of disagreements, even if it means compromising your values.
  • Seeking Approval: You constantly look for validation from others, doubting your own worth.
  • Putting Others First: You prioritise others' needs over your own, often leading to burnout.

If any of these sound familiar, don't worry — you're not alone. Many of us have been there, myself included. The key is recognising these behaviours and understanding their impact on your business growth.

The Importance of Setting Boundaries

Setting boundaries is essential for both your well-being and your business growth.

Here’s why:

  • Protect Your Time and Energy: Boundaries help you manage your time effectively and prevent burnout.
  • Maintain Integrity: By setting clear boundaries, you stay true to your values and principles.
  • Earn Respect: People respect those who respect themselves and set clear limits.
  • Focus on Priorities: Boundaries allow you to concentrate on what truly matters to you, rather than getting lost in others' demands.

Boundaries are not about shutting people out; they’re about defining how you want to be treated and what you need to thrive.

Exercises to Shift from Pleasing to Leading

Ready to make the shift? Here are some practical exercises to help you transition from people pleaser to LinkedIn leader:

  1. Reflect on Your Values: Take time to identify what matters most to you. Write down your core values and use them as a guide in your decision-making process.
  2. Practice Saying No: Start with small steps. When someone asks for your help and you’re overwhelmed, politely decline. Remember, saying no to others often means saying yes to yourself.
  3. Set Clear Goals: Define what leadership looks like for you on LinkedIn. Whether it’s posting regularly, engaging with your network, or sharing your expertise, set clear, achievable goals to guide your actions - it's what is meaningful for you not how you think leadership should be!
  4. Seek Constructive Feedback: Find a trusted mentor or colleague and ask for feedback on your leadership style. Use their insights to grow and improve.
  5. Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge and celebrate your progress, no matter how small. Celebrating these victories reinforces positive behaviour and boosts your confidence.

Conclusion

Transitioning from a people pleaser to a LinkedIn leader is about shifting your mindset and setting strong boundaries. By prioritising your values and taking control of your interactions, you’ll naturally step into a leadership role that feels genuine and powerful.

Remember - it's about taking small steps and being kind to yourself.

Nothing happens over night and you're not in a race.

I hope these tips help you on your journey. If you found this newsletter valuable, let’s continue the conversation! Share your thoughts, experiences, or any questions you have in the comments. I’m here to support you every step of the way.

Stay f*cking awesome and stay authentic!

Cheers
