From Whispers to Thunder: Short Stories That Resonate
Resonance is tricky. If you resonate with something or someone at the same frequency, you both will be shredded to pieces! But, that's physics. In literature, there's no harm in resonating with a short story, a story that would make you nod your head as you read, makes you smile, and makes you wonder, 'Hey! This sounds like my story!'
Out of curiosity, I have travelled to a few rivers' origin places and tried to track down where the first trickle of their water emerges! I was disappointed that I could not find one single source. Later I learnt that many such streams merge and become a larger stream, and many such larger streams merge to become the origin of the river.
Likewise, a story develops as narrow streams of water, originating at remote corners of our mind as whispers, each whisper pulsating at its own right. The whispers merge and emerge and finally take shape as a story, potentially like a thunder in the thought. Who would have imagined that a few combinations of word would make a shift in thinking of the reader and lead to transformations? Each occurrence, each thought, and each inquiry of the characters in the story, builds the momentum to make a fabulous story.
I always try to resonate with you, the readers, because that's the way you can recognize and appreciate the undercurrent of the theme that's lying in the story. If you cannot relate to what I say, things would be far-fetched for you, and I don't want you to be in that place. Hence these stories in 'A Pebble Unlistened', my English short stories collection, has characters that would whisper to you, and hopefully cause the thunder in your thought.
