Funding opportunities for non-profit

Funding opportunities for non-profit

The Swedish Inheritance Fund (Allmänna Arvsfonden) is a significant financial resource for non-profit organizations in Sweden, aimed at improving the quality of life for children, young people, and individuals with disabilities. The fund's resources come from estates left behind by people who pass away without any legal heirs or a valid will. As of the latest available data, the Swedish Inheritance Fund manages approximately SEK 10 billion, which is roughly equivalent to USD 1 billion.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for funding, organizations must:

  1. Be non-profit: The applying association must be a non-profit organization registered in Sweden.
  2. Target specific groups: Projects must focus on improving conditions for children, young people, or individuals with disabilities.
  3. Innovative and beneficial projects: The proposed project should be innovative and provide substantial benefits to the target group.
  4. Sustainability: The project should have a clear plan for sustainability after the funding period ends.

Funding amounts

The Swedish Inheritance Fund provides varying amounts of financial support depending on the project's scope and needs:

  • Small projects: Up to SEK 500,000 (approximately USD 50,000) for short-term or less extensive initiatives.
  • Medium projects: Between SEK 500,000 and SEK 2 million (approximately USD 50,000 to USD 200,000) for more resource-intensive projects.
  • Large projects: Over SEK 2 million (more than USD 200,000) for ambitious and large-scale projects.

Examples of funded projects

  1. Lika olika (SEK 1.5 million / USD 150,000): This project promotes understanding and community among youth from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds through workshops and joint activities.
  2. Disability and sports (SEK 2.2 million / USD 220,000): A project developing adapted sports activities for children and young people with disabilities, aiming to increase their physical activity and social inclusion.
  3. Digital learning for all (SEK 3 million / USD 300,000): An initiative creating digital educational resources and platforms for young people with special educational needs, focusing on enhancing their learning and independence.
  4. Creative youth projects (SEK 500,000 / USD 50,000): A smaller project supporting youth creative expression through art, music, and theater, thereby strengthening their self-esteem and social skills.

The Swedish Inheritance Fund continues to be a vital player in fostering an inclusive and equitable society in Sweden by supporting innovative projects that address the needs of its target groups.

Take note of:

  • That this is not limited to Swedish nationals!
  • There is no limit to the number of times you can receive grants by applying through multiple associations you chair.
  • There are plenty of opportunities for profit-driven companies to gain spin-off benefits from this without compromising the donor's purpose or violating any rules.
