The future of learning is inclusion

Welcome back to ReadSpeaker Education Express. This is our LinkedIn newsletter aimed at providing insights and updates on all things text-to-speech for the education and publishing world.

ReadSpeaker has been recognised with two award wins/nominations since our last edition! But worry not, we won't be using this newsletter to just talk about our achievements - we've also sprinkled through plenty of insights from customers, as well as informative blogs and videos.

How have Gale broken down barriers to learning?

Gale logo - orange circular design with the word GALE

Gale, part of Cengage Group , have gone beyond compliance when it comes to accessibility. In their work to connect learners with content, they have made digital accessibility a key facet of their philosophy.

In April of 2024, all Gale resources were upgraded to an enhanced version of ReadSpeaker technology. This means anyone who wants to listen to written content simply clicks a button and their text is read to them in an AI-powered, natural sounding voice.

“Our customers love this tool. Especially those who work with multilingual learners, allowing them to provide a level playing field. Our educators who access our professional development eBooks also love this tool, as it allows for the downloaded audio to listen during their commutes and free time.”

Webinars

The future of learning is inclusion - but how can educators ensure that every learner feels included when creating a curriculum or courses?

Meet UDL (or Universal Design for Learning) - a set of guidelines which recommends that a curriculum is offered in multiple formats so that all learners can access the content in a way that feels right for them.

Want to learn more? We're hosting a webinar in December, with special guest Sambhavi Chandrashekar, the Global Accessibility Lead for D2L.

Why should learning and development professionals care about accessibility and inclusion?

In the modern workplace, with teams made up of colleagues from diverse backgrounds and different abilities, it is important that everyone has an equal opportunity to grow and learn. It's not just about giving everyone a fair shot at progression, it also makes learning and development more enjoyable for the whole workforce.

Text-to-speech now available in the Moodle app

The numbers speak for themselves - worldwide education app downloads have grown by 157% over the last 5 years, highlighting that learning is taking a shift from the traditional sit-at-desk approach.

With this shift, we find that learners are also looking at different ways to consume their course content - by listening instead of reading. Whether this is through need or preference, ReadSpeaker is there to provide the audio that learners want in the Moodle app. Watch the video below for a brief demo of how text-to-speech in the Moodle app works.
