Hotel Managers & International Women’s Day
A career in Hospitality is a commitment to look after your Customers, promoting well-being and providing the best Service that you can .... whether you are Male or Female?
Both Male Hotel Managers and Female Hotel Managers have a similar ethos for service, teamwork, flexibility, compassion and safety, but are there key differences in the them in terms of experience, education, and salary?
Both Male Hotel Managers and Female Hotel Managers are obviously important to the Hotel. Both plan, lead, organize and control. In short, they are both needed to make a Hotel operate smoothly. Thus, comparisons made between Male Hotel Managers and Female Hotel Managers are to be made carefully.
To say that a Female Hotel Manager is at a level lower than that of Male Hotel Manager is not at all accurate, as the vastly different levels of experience in Hotel Managers is often due to the type and size of Hotels and not the gender?
Both Male and Female Hotel Managers officially usually lead workers when it comes to a Hospitality business regardless of the gender of the manager and the department within the Hotel. In Hotels, workers usually do the work, whilst both Male and Female Managers will often take care of the administration.
Without either a Male or Female Hotel Manager, the longer-term thinking within the Hotel would not be carried out whereas without Hotel Workers the full range of a Hotel’s services would simply not occur.
Workers conduct every form of activity from changing the bed sheets and cooking meals, to checking guests in and handling estates machinery. Nevertheless, workers are not usually authorized to order and pay for supplies without either a Male or a Female Hotel Manager’s approval. Workers take the bigger share of the tasks, whilst either a Male or a Female Manager takes the bigger portion of the responsibilities and decision making.
As for whether it is tougher to be a Male Hotel Manager or a Female Hotel Manager to handle, the answer is still open to argument?
Both Male and Female Hotel Managers are likely to be limited to their Department around the Hotel; apart from senior Male or Female managers who then become non-specialist or General Managers.
As to whether Male or Female Managers enjoy a closer relationship with their guests, again, the answer is still open to argument? All Hotel Managers have a constant need to detach themselves emotionally from a guest so as to be able to continue with their work regardless of the gender.
Experienced Hotel workers tend to question analysis given by the young managers regardless of whether they are Male or Female. In a successful Hotel, the Male and Female Hotel Managers both share a mutual respect for each other.
Perhaps one of the differences between Male Hotel Managers and Female Hotel Managers is salary. But all I am going to say about this is an experienced Hotel Manager in a busy or large Hotel could earn more than a less experienced Manager in a smaller or less busy property, regardless of their Gender.
Surely knowledge, skill, and ability separate Male Hotel Managers from Female Hotel Managers? Of course not. Your experienced Female Hotel Manager knows way more about Hospitality than your average Male Hotel Manager – and vice versa. A Female who becomes a Hotel Manager is just as smart as a Male who becomes a Hotel Manager, which has always been true, but not always acknowledged.
So what is the difference between a Male Hotel Manager and a Female Hotel Manager? Perhaps, the difference ultimately lays in How the Cultures and the Hotel Guests view the Male and the Female Hotel Manager? This ultimate privilege and burden still has a lot more to change in some Countries and Companies than others....
