Goal Setting vs Committing to Action

Goal Setting vs Committing to Action

It's that time of year where everyone is talking about goal-setting for the year. We like to choose our "Word for the year" (which I love!) and with a fresh new year starting, we feel refreshed and optimistic about what can happen!

But if you look back at the past year (wasn't it amazing? yeah, that's the word!) could you have possibly predicted all the things that would happen that essentially changed everyone's life? Impossible! If someone would have told me a year ago that we were heading towards a world-wide pandemic, I would never have believed it!

So when it comes to goal setting, I like to take it from a different angle. Because you can set all the goals you want like hitting the top rank of your company, or making a certain amount of money, but I really think those things are out of your control. They are definitely something to aim for, but you don't actually know what obstacles or challenges that lie ahead.

However ONE THING (if you know me at all, I'm all about the ONE THING) that you totally have control over is the action you will take.

And when you truly commit to inspired action, amazing things happen! It's inevitable!

Think about this simple scenario, for example ...

If you know that in the past, for every 10 people you talk to about your business, usually only one person is actually interested, then you know how many people you need to talk to in order to find enough people to start seeing growth in your business, right?

If you want to have 4 new people join your team every month, you need to talk to at least 40 people per month. (And you may want to increase that a bit just to make sure the odds are with you!) Let's say you decide you will talk to 60 people. Your next step is figure out what action steps do you need to take in order to talk to 60 new people every month.

This is something you have control of! All you need to do is decide what method you'll use to find 60 new people every month (warm market, social media, networking groups, etc.). Then once you've figured out your method, break it down over 4 weeks of the month. If you're trying to talk to 60 people in a month, then you need to talk to 15 people every week.

Then you commit to the action of speaking to those 60 new people each and every month. This is something you can focus on no matter what else is going on around you.

It really just boils down to taking CONSISTENT ACTION on a daily basis.
