God’s Birth Announcement // Luke 2:14
By Mark Jordan
Luke 2:14 (NIV) | “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
We looked at this verse as part of yesterday’s writing. It started with the angel telling the shepherds not to fear before the night sky exploded with a whole host of heavenly angels singing of God’s glory and peace for humanity. This message came from the heights of heaven all the way down to shepherds out in the field watching their flocks…those lowest on the social ladder. This message coming from up high to down low follows the exact pattern God set out in the rescue mission for humanity. He comes down to us from the glory of heaven to the muck of the earth. He came to show us the heartbeat of heaven beats for you and me and declare peace with us who in our sin were enemies of God (Romans 5:10). He went to the cross to pay a penalty we could never cover while giving us grace we could never earn. God did it all for you and me. This is the meaning of the heavenly birth announcement. God came to us. The only thing you need do is admit you are a sinner in need of salvation; believe in Jesus as God’s one and only son; and commit your life to Him. God in the highest heaven sends His love to your lowest lows. Remember, He loves you enough to meet you where you are, but too much to leave you there. May His glory light your way and favor encourage you to give your heart to Jesus.
Merry Christmas!
