"Grief is in two parts. The first is loss. The second is the remaking of life." — Anne Roiphe

Happy Thursday, friends,
I'm still in upstate New York delivering a stress management workshop for journalists, and it got me thinking... because, at the end of the day, as much as we love to absorb ourselves in the highlight reel of social media: we need get real for a moment, and recognize that life rarely as neat and tidy as we like to pretend it is.
It's messy, raw, and sometimes downright heartbreaking.
We’ve all faced those moments where the weight of the world feels too heavy, and we don’t know how to move forward. But here’s the thing: those moments can be fuel for something extraordinary.
That’s where I've found the power of songwriting to be most effective. And, as trite as it might sound, the most powerful.
Because when the world feels like it’s falling apart, music often becomes our safe space — a way to scream, cry, whisper, and, most importantly, heal. [I mean, isn't this why Adele is so freakin popular?].
But seriously. Music isn't just about expressing ourselves; it’s about transforming our emotions into something that empowers us to keep going.
Let me reintroduce: “Grieve”
I wrote Grieve earlier this year, but I'll be honest: it was inspired by a really dark subject in my life. And - unfortunately - many of the people in your life can probably relate in some way. You see; trauma, stress and overwhelm are rarely themes that turn up in our lives for a brief chapter or two... many of us who struggle with mental, emotional or physical trauma have to endure a pretty long term aftermath. Well, for me: I've spent a rather long part of my life watching someone I love dearly battle with pretty severe mental and physical health problems — struggling so deeply that the last time we spoke, they made the decision to make a permanent fix to end their pain.
They then cut me off.
And I'm not going to lie: it's left me feeling powerless, overwhelmed, and—honestly—angry at the unfairness of it all. But instead of letting those feelings consume me, I turned to songwriting.
Through Grieve, I found a way to release the emotions that have been holding me hostage. It's become yet another lifeline for me — a way to forgive them for the pain that I'm sure they didn’t mean to cause, and to forgive myself for not having all the answers.
The line that still hits me the hardest? "I know it’s hard being broken, I know it’s hard to fight the fear. I know it’s hard being broken — but I hate to grieve while you’re still here."
Writing Grieve didn’t fix everything, but it gave me clarity, strength, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Now It's YOUR Turn To Transform Your Emotions Into Energy
Here’s the truth: You don’t have to be a professional musician to use songwriting as a tool for transformation.
Songwriting isn’t about creating perfection—it’s about creating clarity. It’s about taking the emotions that weigh you down and turning them into energy that lifts you up.
This is what I do with my clients every day — whether they’re teenagers navigating the chaos of growing up or adults reclaiming their voice after years of silence. Together, we take the messiness of life and turn it into songs that empower, heal, and transform.
