Growing Your Email List with LinkedIn Events

Growing Your Email List with LinkedIn Events

LinkedIn is literally my go-to platform for growing my email list. It allows me to target a specific market where I can share a ton of insights and connect with more of my ideal clients.

I love sharing how to leverage LinkedIn for marketing, and today I want to focus on how you can use LinkedIn Events to grow your email list effectively.

Why Use LinkedIn Events?

Using LinkedIn Events is a powerful strategy to grow your email list. Here’s why:

  1. Targeted Audience: You can reach professionals who are genuinely interested in your niche. LinkedIn's user base consists primarily of professionals looking to network, learn, and grow in their lives. This makes it an ideal platform to target specific demographics that are relevant to your business.
  2. Built-in Tools: LinkedIn provides tools to capture email addresses seamlessly with their LinkedIn Registration form built into their events feature. The registration form captures attendees' information automatically, simplifying the process of collecting email addresses.
  3. Professional Credibility: Hosting events on LinkedIn can enhance your professional credibility. By sharing valuable content and insights through your events, you position yourself as an authority in your field, which can attract more attendees and potential clients.
  4. Extended Reach: LinkedIn’s network effects mean your event can be seen by connections of your invitees, extending your reach beyond your immediate network. When people engage with your event, their connections can see this activity, potentially drawing more attendees.
  5. Analytics and Insights: LinkedIn provides valuable analytics on event performance, attendee engagement, and more. This data can help you refine your approach for future events, ensuring you continually improve and grow your audience.

So, how are you going to grow your email list? By using this strategy when using LinkedIn Events! Here’s a step-by-step guide to get you started:

This is what your screen is going to look like when click on "create your events" tab.

Step 1: Create Your Event

Catchy Event Name and Headline

First, make sure your event has a catchy name and an attention-grabbing headline. This is crucial for capturing your audience's interest. For example, instead of “Marketing Strategies Webinar,” try “Boost Your Sales: Proven Marketing Strategies for 2024.”

Use the LinkedIn Registration Form

Next, check the box that says "Use a LinkedIn registration form." This feature allows attendees to register for your event, capturing their email addresses in the process. Don’t forget to accept LinkedIn’s privacy policy to complete this step.

Once you’ve done this, your event page is ready, and you are set to start growing your email list! Woohoo!

Step 2: Invite Attendees

Now for the fun part. LinkedIn allows you to invite up to 1,000 followers a week to your event. Here are some tips to maximize this feature:

Strategic Invitations: Take a strategic approach when inviting people. Don’t just invite anyone; focus on those who are most likely to be interested in your event and who fit your ideal client profile.

For instance, if your event is about digital marketing, prioritize inviting marketing managers, digital strategists, and small business owners.

You can filter in by location, current company , industry and school.

Withdraw Pending Requests: Make sure to withdraw any pending requests that have not been accepted. This helps prevent issues with LinkedIn’s algorithm, ensuring your invitations reach new potential attendees.

Step 3: Manage Attendees

Once your event has been accepted, go to "Manage Attendees" to take a look at who has registered for your event. Take the time to send them a thank-you message for registering. This increases the chances of them attending your event. For example:

  • Personalized Thank-You Message: “Hi [Name], thank you for registering for our ‘Boost Your Sales: Proven Marketing Strategies for 2024’ event. We’re excited to have you join us and look forward to sharing valuable insights with you.! s there something you'd like to learn more of?"

Step 4: Download the Email Registration Form

Once you are ready to gather your email list click on the tab where it says "Download Registration Info"

This form will include all the email addresses of the attendees who registered for your event.

For example:

  • Post-Event Registration Download: “To download your attendee list, navigate to your event page, click on ‘Manage Attendees,’ and select the option to download the registration form.”

Step 5: Add Attendees to Your Email Platform of Choice

Once you have downloaded your email list it will come up as a spreadsheet, which you can upload to your email platform of choice, such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or any other email marketing service you use.

For instance:

  • Upload Process: “Open your email platform, go to the list or audience section, and upload the CSV file you downloaded from LinkedIn. Make sure to map the fields correctly, such as email addresses and names.”

Step 6: Follow-Up and Engagement

After the event, don’t forget to follow up with attendees. Send a thank-you email, share additional resources, and encourage them to join you in future events. This continued engagement helps to solidify your relationship with your new contacts. For example:

  • Thank-You Email: “Thank you for attending our ‘Boost Your Sales: Proven Marketing Strategies for 2024’ event! We hope you found the insights valuable. As promised, here’s a copy of the presentation slides and a special eBook on advanced marketing techniques.”
  • Additional Resources: “We thought you might find these blog posts and upcoming webinars interesting based on our recent event.”
  • Join Our Email List: “Stay updated with the latest marketing trends and tips by joining our email list. Click here to subscribe.”

Conclusion

LinkedIn Events are a fantastic way to grow your email list while engaging with your target audience.

By creating compelling events, using LinkedIn’s registration forms, and strategically inviting attendees, you can significantly expand your email list and connect with more of your ideal clients. Start planning your next LinkedIn Event today and watch your email list grow!

I love this. Out of curiosity ... do you have ideas for how someone who doesn't host events to utilize events on LinkedIn? Should I schedule virtual events?
