Habits = Results

Habits = Results

The year was 2009 and I was late for work....not because I'd slept in, not because I didn't want to go...but because I'd lost my keys...again!!

A seemingly small insignificant habit that was actually causing havoc under the radar. Something that I could easily dismiss as annoying and 'just me'...until I realised that it was something I could actually do something about.

Back then I'd stumbled upon something that I now call 'an out of date habit'. The small things that we do without even realising that make our lives just that little bit harder than they need to be.

Things like:

→ Over committing and saying 'yes' to things that are really a 'no' leaving you feeling overwhelmed and craving some free time.

→ Checking your emails first thing and getting sucked into reactive mode before you've even had your first cup of coffee.

→ Working evenings and weekends to catch up and stay on top of things

→ Cancelling meetings because you're running out of time

→ Or jumping in to fix things for your team leaving you with no time to focus, and no headspace to think.

This list could go on, and I see these all the time.

But the thing is that these are the habits that are actually giving you the results that you're seeing.

Actions = Results

And habits are just actions on autopilot.

So, if you want to improve / change your results, or even just how you feel throughout the day, your habits are a great place to start.

If you're ready, have a go at these 3 steps to give your habits a bit of a de-clutter.

  1. Do a bit of a sense check on your day and see what you keep doing that just makes life harder than it should. Start with when you first wake up and not just your work day and see where you're wasting time, doing things that just annoy you, or slowing you down.
  2. Now write down how you're justifying them - look out for when you're thinking 'I'm just like that', or 'it's 'their fault' as these are all great excuses that can feel like reasons.
  3. Make a list of how you can fix them, and set your intention to put them in place. Looking at how it's affecting other people, whether that's your family, or your team is a great motivator, and most of the time the simplest of changes can give you the best results.

Have a great week

Barbara
