Hacker stuff: Screen crab - you see, I see

Having a look at what malicious devices really look like is refreshing and a great addition to reading about security. This article is the second one in the row covering hacker stuff (first one). Today's tool is the Screen Crab.

Screen crab is a small device that could be inserted in the middle of the cable from your PC to your monitor, or on the way from your console to television. It captures screenshots and sends them to a malicious actor. Scientifically saying it implements a stealthy video man-in-the-middle implant for HDMI cables. It effectuates passive screening, and that is why it is hard to identify this device. Obviously, the biggest challenge is to install this gizmo.

The risk coming from this device is evident as it sees what you see. Bank account information, confidential data, mail, contacts and so on.

Screen crab is a commoditised tool, so you do not need to Do It Yourself. You can get it for something around 100-200 bucks
