Have your say on food

Have your say on food

As food and health, farming and land use climb the election agenda, The Food Conversation is set to involve hundreds more citizens through locally-organised Food Conversations.

Over the past year, hundreds of people have taken part in The Food Conversation – with more workshops planned in London, Cornwall, Northern Ireland and Scotland. Now, we're inviting citizens and community groups to host their own event and join a unique UK-wide conversation about food.

These events aim to hear from local communities – listening to different perspectives, helping to build connections and cement relationships – and will add to the evidence we're gathering about what citizens in the UK really want from food. Already, the results from The Food Conversation are showing an extraordinary level of consensus among citizens when it comes to food policies.

In a new blog, out this week, our Chief Exec Sue Pritchard draws on these findings to call for political leaders to put food at the centre of their ambitions, saying there is "a remarkable, even unprecedented, consensus between people of all backgrounds and political allegiances. Citizens are less divided, more thoughtful, and more ambitious in their policy asks than many of the party manifestos".

Our new online toolkit builds on the conversations that have already taken place, and is designed to spark debate amongst citizens about food. It is free to anyone who wants to host a Food Conversation. Already local groups in more than forty locations across the UK are taking part, adding to the incentives for politicians to act on food during a period of a new government and beyond.
