Hearing “I can’t”? Flip it into this instead

I recently worked with a copywriter in my CEO Catalyst mastermind, helping her figure out how to hit her revenue goals during the daycare hours she has to work with.

I love brainstorming offer stacks. They’re like giant puzzles with endless possibilities and once you fit all the pieces together, the result can be magic.

She was telling me about the work she’s been doing but I could tell from her expression—and the way her energy dipped—it wasn’t exactly lighting her up. So I switched gears and asked her about the work she’d love to do and the clients she enjoys working with the most.

BAM—whole new vibe. Her face lit up, her posture changed, and it was like we were suddenly speaking a different language. A language of possibility.

It immediately showcased the restrictions we often put on ourselves when crafting the vision of our business (and I fall prey to this too).

We stay rooted in the past. In the projects we’ve done and clients who hired us as if they’re are the best indicator of what’s possible. They’re not. They are simply what got us here.

When you shift your focus from what you have been doing to what you want to be doing—your ideal business, the dream clients, the work that makes your heart race—you start seeing the gaps. But more importantly, you start working on the steps to fill them.

How do I make that version real?

You might instantly hear a voice that says, I can’t do that because…

What does it say next?

Because you need to…

  • Skill up in one or more areas?
  • Add services to attract specific clients?
  • Outsource to free up more time?
  • Level up your marketing? Onboarding? Discovery call process?

That voice isn’t telling you why you can’t. It’s telling you how you can.

When you identify the big moves you need to make to bridge the gap, you can create a plan.

Once you’ve got that plan, you can start taking action and leave the work (and the clients) you don’t love behind you.

I mean, if you’re going to work as hard as you do, why not shoot for the business you want (whatever that looks like)?

We’re getting into planning season right now and so, as you’re thinking about your business, don’t just extend what you have right now. Imagine what your ideal business looks like, feels like, works like.

Yes, you deserve that version. And yes, it’s absolutely possible.

Cheering for you, Belinda
