Hope and Trust … Not Alone Amid the Enigmas of Existence

Hope and Trust … Not Alone Amid the Enigmas of Existence

Saint Pope John Paul II concluded his Papal Address, delivered to the United Nations on Thursday, 5 October 1995, with:

“We must not be afraid of the future. We must not be afraid of humankind. It is no accident that we are here. Each and every human person has been created in the “image and likeness” of the One who is the origin of all that is. We have within us the capacities for wisdom and virtue. With these gifts, and with the help of God’s grace, we can build in the next century and the next millennium a civilization worthy of the human person, a true culture of freedom. We can and must do so! And in doing so, we shall see that the tears of this century have prepared the ground for a new springtime of the human spirit.

Visit the Building the Bridge Foundation website. In a nutshell, this is what we’re about:

  1. The Building the Bridge Foundation is grounded in the firm conviction that human progress only becomes possible if there is effective and guaranteed respect for the inalienable dignity and rights of every person.
  2. It is the duty of every democratic system to demand and protect fundamental human rights and every category of those rights.
  3. This applies to the rights that relate to material survival, but also to the human mind with its incessant search for truth and freedom.
  4. The many forms of injustice and discrimination inflicted on the weak in too many parts of the world prove that the world is still far from that goal.
  5. Today, the international community urgently needs a renewed and more effective commitment to respond to the needs of all. (*Page 196; Kindle Locations 3947-3951).
