How do I prevent people from unsubscribing from my email list?

Recently I was asked:

How do I prevent so many people from unsubscribing from my email list?

Here are a few methods from the top of my head:

1) Don’t make it spammy - Check out the spam filters.

2) Don't sell sell sell - Overselling will make people uninterested, how else can you provide value?

3) Provide more value than you do with general sales - People will then be excited to see your next emails.

4) Avoid a clickbait subject line - Now, you can be ‘clickbaity’ but tone it down & be subtle about it. If you over-do this then you will be annoying

5) Make your emails personalised - Include their name & other triggers that your email service has. You could also set up flows just for certain products as well so you know it’s targeted.

6) Ask your followers questions so people are more likely to engage back - This will get people to respond so you can have a 1 on 1 conversation with them.

7) Make it feel exclusive: "Welcome to the *brand* family" 

8) Send emails ‘from the owner’ - Ex: Hi there name. I'm Liam, founder of Company! I wanted to personally reach out to you... This also again makes it feel more personal.

9) Don’t spam them by sending multiple emails (I wouldn’t send more than 3 in a week) - This can get on people's nerves

10) Segment your lists based off of VIP buyers, past purchasers, people who have engaged with emails, send them all unique offers - These are people who actually care about your brand, so you want to keep them close
