How to evaluate the fireproof performance of flexible rubber foam thermal insulation materials?

Fire resistance is one of the key indicators for selecting flexible rubber foam insulation materials,

In addition to understanding the moisture resistance performance of materials,

We also need to learn to judge the fire resistance of materials.

According to different judgment standards and test methods, the fire resistance of flexible rubber foam insulation materials will have different grades.

Different industries have different requirements on the fireproof performance of flexible rubber foam insulation materials. The following introduces the testing standards and methods related to fire prevention in building engineering:

1/National standard combustion classification

According to the requirements of the Code for Fire Protection Design of Buildings, when flexible rubber foam materials are used for heat insulation of piping systems, they must meet the fire resistance rating (B1). According to the GB8624-2012 standard, the flame retardant B1 level is further divided into B and C levels. The grading experiment of this test mainly evaluates the smoke production, smoke toxicity, and droplet melting of materials.

2/Oxygen index

The oxygen index is a parameter for quickly determining the combustion performance of materials. The higher the oxygen index, the harder it is for the material to burn. The national standard requires that the oxygen index of flexible rubber foam insulation material should be ≥ 32%.

3/British Standard Fire Protection

The British standard "Level 0" is a widely recognized fire safety standard internationally. According to the UK Building Regulations, zero grade materials must meet the following conditions: undergo BS476 Part 7 testing and meet Class 1; Simultaneously conducting the BS476 Part 6 test, the fire spread index (I) shall not exceed 12, and the sub index (i1) shall not exceed 6.

In addition to the UK and Commonwealth countries, China's Hong Kong and Macau regions are also implementing the British Standard for Zero fire protection.

TKOOL Level 0 has excellent fire resistance performance, meeting the requirements of national standard GB8624 flame retardant B1 or above, as well as the British standard fire resistance Level 0. It is a genuine "Level 0" product.

4/FM certification

FM certification is a certification conducted by FM Insurance Company in the United States. Engineering projects that require FM insurance must choose materials with FM certification. FM certification adopts FM fire resistance testing method 4924 for insulation materials, which is characterized by full-scale experiments (also known as proportional fire resistance experiments). By simulating actual fire scenarios to the maximum extent possible, the performance of the product in actual fires is examined.

The products produced by TECH-SHENZHOU have passed FM certification and meet the safety and performance standards of fire safety agencies in multiple countries/regions.

Each fire protection standard has its advantages and disadvantages. If a product meets multiple standard testing requirements, it means that the product is safer. The TECH-SHENZHOU series products can meet multiple standards for fire testing, making them safer and more reliable. In addition, according to the requirements of different industries, Ales can also provide insulation and noise reduction solutions that meet the fire protection requirements of the industry.
