How to find your path to the perfect remote business ...

I quit my job in 2019. Corporate life wasn't fulfilling for me and it got to the point where no amount of money would keep me there.

But like most people I didn't know what to do ... what kind of business could I run that would replace my corporate income?

The Search

I did the usual research.

Google.

YouTube.

Physical books.

Podcasts.

But nothing really appealed so I thought I'd just try EVERYTHING ... over the years I've run:

• a children's shoe store
• a mobile juice bar
• several ecom stores
• an Amazon FBA store
• a cape flag business (you wear the flag as a cape to sports games)
• a dating site (OMG, SUPER interesting, but not for me)
• a babysitting site

All throughout it was interesting and fun to start these but none of them ticked all the boxes.

What most people do ...

If you jump online on any of the social platforms you will find people making money online. The typical path is to follow them and see if anything resonates.

You can get stuck into their content, sign up for their offers and give it a go ... that's how you find out. And I did that too ...

Our Transition

This is how my partner Paul and I got to start the automation agency we run now.

We found people who built funnels, but we had no idea what a funnel was! So we learned. There was this dude by the name of Russell Brunson who ran a company called ClickFunnels.

We watched all the videos, signed up for the software and did the One Funnel Away Challenge - a 30 day challenge which turned into 6 weeks because of the pre and post training.

From there we learned how to build funnels and created our own. And then we started a Facebook group to help people with their tech ... and offered our services.

To make a long story short, we monetized that group at 70 people.

We had no offer, no sales page, no email list .... just a group and some expertise where we were sharing content about how we built this cool funnel.

A member reached out to us and asked us if we could build theirs.

So we scrambled together to get an offer and presented it. It was cheap because we wanted them to say yes.

They immediately accepted, we did the job and got an amazing testimonial and took on more clients from there.

It's through all the searching that I did in those early days that got us to where we are now. We are not super rich, but we live a pretty great life.

We broke out of the 9-5 and have sustained it for 5 years. Now we are traveling with the kids with no end date. Currently living in Thailand.

That might sound like a dream to you or a nightmare, but the beauty of a digital business is that you can do it from home, or leave the safety of your homeland and travel, like us. The choice is yours.
