How the fluff is disrupting our business

I don't know about you but there is almost nothing better than after a long day of work whether in the office, chasing your toddlers, or driving Uber, you plop down on your bed and just sink in. Have you even literally just sunk into your pillow??? Like somehow your body is now being conformed to the cotton fabric beneath you? Even if you are laying on a basic queen stone-filled mattress, you feel like you're on a cloud or laying on your perfect Sleep Number. All of the fluffiness in the pillows just welcomes you and lets you know the day has ended, you survived and you are still here. Ahhhhh all the fluff!!!

Some people however are taking this moment of fluffiness too far... case in point in their business. I shared last week how my eyeballs almost fell out of my head as I was scrolling looking for a viable business option for a client's need. And how 99% of what I saw was fluff. Not the kind that brings ultimate relaxation but the kind that makes you think, 'Am I the only one seeing this craziness?'

It seems like it's getting harder and harder to decipher who is authentically doing great work and who is just a great ChatGPT user (yes I had to throw that in because that platform is wild and will most definitely take people out of their jobs in content creation if we're not careful and smart). One thing that I have shared with companies, especially last year who was in a better place post-COVID was this: Get rid of the fluff. Stop being all over the place and hone in on some real skills in your company. I want to take it a bit further today by saying this: If you are seeking to expand your business through global partnership, foreign vendor engagement, or global investor pitches, please stop wasting your time googling. It's disheartening to even have to pen these words but so many of the companies that you believe are able to provide your solution because of their well-written websites or eye-catching videos do not have the grit, skill, or even mindset to accomplish what you want. That does not mean there aren't companies out there to help... quite the contrary. But what you must keep in mind when working with a global company, especially for the first time is instincts matter. When you jump on that first call, you can get the vibe as to whether they are 'the real deal' or just talking fluff. You can gauge whether their track record of success has been skewed with witty testimonials or if they truly have been the solution for many companies similar to yours.

So although we find such comfort and joy laying in our beds, saliva seeping down our lips buried in our fluffy pillows of ecstasy, let's keep the fluff where it belongs. In our bedrooms and out of the business world! For more insights into how to decipher fluff in your global partnerships and strategies, DM me or visit us at eliteprecisionconsulting.com
