How I (Finally) Got Over My Public Speaking Skills ?
I was a super failure when I made my first video on my mobile camera 4 years back, I knew a lot of things but speaking in front of camera - is like asking me to jump from 100 feet !
When it comes to face to face interactions with my team or training individuals, It was not difficult for me …But creating own videos, I was very bad at it.Too much of anxiety and nervousness lead to either repetition or silly grammatical mistakes..
Too Much Of Myself ! Infact to speak a few lines , I would rehearse the whole script hundred times , so that I can deliver the core content to my audience, but this was not helping me at all, I was rapidly loosing confidence in my ability and credibility, when it comes to delivering key message. to my audience ….
I wanted to excel in creating my videos ,I wanted to be the best at it…So I decided to I read and learn, I read over seventy blogs , watched several videos and even took feedback from my peers …
Most offered well-meaning, but generic advice…. “You have to be yourself, when speaking on camera…” “Practice in the mirror several times …“ But the problem was “ I was too much myself”: “too bookish” , "too nervous” and "too dull” …. I invested a lot of time watching TED Video…. Learn how experts speak at TED. But everything they did was highly personal; Their jokes, their problems , life lessons … Everything was perfect in all those orators, I wasn’t sure , If I will be able to speak like them …
Then One day one of my colleague gave me a very specific advice: “ Your problem is that you think this is all about the content, you want to deliver. Your video has little to do with it. Its all about the people - your audience … Its all about your feelings , emotions and experiences, that you went through ….This is what they want to listen …The genuine and authentic you … and not the bookish gyan ….”
I was not too sure about this advice , I ignored it and I preferred my own ineffective approach …Preparing the content , then rehearsing it word by word and then recording it ( after deleting many times)
