How to Kick Fear's Arse

How to Kick Fear's Arse

Fear is insidious, especially irrational fears. What is fear and how can you push through it to go beyond trauma for a better life?

We fear that which we do not control.

Fear of loss - We can't control if something is lost or someone is lost.

Fear of object - The object is in control of our response and our safety

Fear of future - No one controls this

Fear of the unknown - You can't control what you don't know

Fear of people - Can't control the actions of others

Fear of public speaking - Really this is the fear of others judging you

So, if we want to live a fearless life - Do we need to lose control?

We need to let it go, accept it, and trust that things will be as they will be and we will be alright in the end. If we start living for the journey and not the destination, we will see things for what they really are and not what they might be...

A Journalling exercise for you.

Be honest with yourself as you explore one fear you have and look at it from different directions.

Write one thing you are scared of.

  • Why is it a scary thing?
  • Where did you get your information?
  • Where does it occur?
  • When did it happen to you?
  • When could it happen to you?
  • What can you control?
  • What can't you control?
  • What is the worst thing that can happen?
  • What is the best case?
  • What is real?
  • What is false?
  • What is your evidence re true / false?
  • What did you do to determine it validity?
  • What action can you take to keep moving?
  • What are you doing that reinforces this fear? ie watching news
  • What can you focus on instead of the fear?
  • What are you really scared of?

Write a story about it and imagine yourself being fearless instead of fearful, what does that look like?

Do you want to live with this fear or do you want to kick it's ass?
