How Prayagraj Plans Modern Waste Management for Swachh Kumbh 2025?

UP Dresses-Up for Swachh Maha Kumbh 2025

The growing environmental pollution is a nation-wide concern now. Consequently, organizing mass events which lead to mass gatherings is a challenge. Often questions related to cleanliness, sanitization and sustainability factors are raised in such gatherings.

That’s why the UP government has outlined an innovative agenda to celebrate ‘Swachh Kumbh Mela 2025’ at Prayagraj. 

As a result, the entire state dressed up in an eco-friendly outlook to endorse sustainable waste management to celebrate the event held every 12 years.

History Behind Maha Kumbh’s Holy Dip – Brief Overview 

The Maha Kumbh Mela is celebrated after every 12 years for lakhs of devotees to participate in the festival. The devotees from all over the world participate in the Mela held in UP to take holy baths in the Ganga and Yamuna River. 

According to mythology, a holy bath in Yamuna and Ganga will help the devotees to get rid of their sins. 

This year it will be celebrated in Prayagraj, Haridwar, Nashik and Ujjain. The celebration will be held from 13th January to 26th February 2025. 

The government has prioritized hygiene instructions strictly this year to eliminate some of the following hazardous practices shared below- 

  • Polluting the Ganga and Yamuna Rivers by releasing biowaste while taking bath 
  • Avoid contamination of river banks with urination and stool disposal
  • Keep the surroundings clean to reduce the risk of harmful bacteria, viruses and allergen emission 
  • Avoid participating tourists to contaminate the river water meant for holy bath

Major Highlights of Swachh Maha Kumbh 2025 To Endorse Sustainability

  • 1.5 lakh toilets with modern sanitation facilities will be set up in Prayagraj for the Kumbh Mela
  • Proper sanitation and hygiene will be assured for worldwide devotees visiting the Kumbh Mela ground 
  • Around 10,000 sanitation workers are deployed to assure cleanliness at the fair 
  • 25,000 dustbins with liner bags will be installed around the fairground 
  • 300 sectional vehicles and a jet spray cleaning system are deployed to celebrate Swachh Kumbh 2025 
  • The UP-state government has arranged 120 tippers and 40 compactor vehicles to transfer solid and liquid bio-waste to specific sections set in designated areas  
  • The vehicles will be monitored using GPS to assure timely and effective cleaning

Conclusion

The innovative plan to tackle waste management in Kumbh Mela shown by the UP government is a unique way to protect the ecosystem from environmental pollution. 

Other Indian states can follow UP’s footsteps to assure sustainable waste management to avoid ecological pollution at mass gatherings in religious festivals.  

It’s the only way to comply with PM Modi’s ‘Swachh Bharat Aviyan’ in the country.
